My Current Hair Styling Products

These are the hair products that I am currently using

Shampoo and Conditioner - Trevor Sorbie

I picked these up in Boots as they are having a 2 for £7.00 offer at the moment.  The beautiful volume collection does not have a wash off conditioner in the range so I opted for the beautiful brunette cool coffee conditioner as I don't like leave in conditioners unless I am on holiday.  The shampoo is really nice, thick and gel like in consistency but when you rub it in it is really light and washes through easily.  I definitely think this does make my hair look thicker, more so than the volume enhancing ones I have tried before.  Prior to this my favourite was Tommyguns and while that smells a whole lot better I think this Trevor Sorbie one produces more volume.  The conditioner is just OK.  It does make my hair shiny but it isn't as soft and moisturised as with other brands. The consistency is rich and creamy which I prefer as if conditioners are too thin they just seem to slip out of my hair and drip out (as I tend to leave my conditioner on for 3-5 minutes each time). I would say there are much better conditioners out there so I wil continue to search.

Volume Boosting Styling Products

On the day of washing I use either a mousse (L'Oreal's new Studio Silk n Gloss Volume Mousse) or a root boosting spray (Tresemme 24 hour volume root boosting spray).  This really just depends on whether I want volume all over or just at the roots if I am wearing my hair up.  When using the mousse I use about half a golf ball sized amount as my hair is very thin, this does make your hair and hands feel horrible and sticky while it is still wet and I have to dry my hair upside down but it does create a lot of volume and bounce.  The root boosting spray  is easy to use, just spritz around 4-5 times at the roots concentrating at the crown and blow dry for some great root volume, this is non sticky and the spray is really good for directing the product where you need it.

Heat Protection

I have been using the Chi Keratin Mist for about 6 weeks now and I am really impressed, I picked it up for around half the retail price in TK Maxx as well so it was a bargain.  The bottle is large so it's going to last a long time and I find my hair is looking less frazzled after blow drying now I use this.  I spray it all over damp hair after putting on my volumising product, specifically on the ends.

Blow Drying

My house is so cold, even with the heating on.  During this snowy and icy weather I have been carrying a hot water bottle around with me and wearing a hat so to be honest leaving my hair to dry naturally just isn't going to happen, my hair is very fine and needs serious blow drying for it to have a bit of uplift.  I use a combination of techniques to get a bit of volume.

First I blow dry my hair upside down until it is about 80% dry.  Then I put some velcro rollers into the front and crown sections of my hair

Then I blow dry the rest of my hair using a round brush, usually the big one from the picture is the easiest to use, it's by Denman

Then I blast the velcro-rollered hair with hot air to finish them drying and then cool air to seal the curl/volume that I have created.  I carefully unwind them and then smooth it with the smaller round brush from above, it's from Superdrug and cost a couple of pounds.

Shiny Ends

I have two products to give you sealed split ends (in the short term).  I either use BC Bonacure colour save sealed ends which you can get from Feelunique or Trevor Sorbie serum, which is much thinner in consistency than the John Frieda serum which is good if you have fine hair as it doesn't weigh it down.  It also really helps hair look smooth and shiny if you need to slick your hair back into a pony tail.

Obviously this whole thing takes ages! Everyone in my family has fine, thin and frankly rubbish hair.  I wish I had lovely thick locks!  So I only wash and blowdry my hair every other day, or longer if I can manage it.  In the days in between I use the Batiste dry shampoo to keep my hair non-greasy and give it some 'guts'.  I much prefer the normal dry shampoo as these coloured ones don't seem to give me much volume, yes they are coloured so you don't end up with grandma white hair if you are a brunette but they don't seem to work the same - has anyone found this?  I am looking for a new dry shampoo if anyone can recommend one.
