I am amazed at the events that have unfolded over the last couple of days on Twitter and blogs. In case you didn't know (I am sure there are some of you, I am usually the last to know anything and generally rely on http://www.vexinthecity.com/ to tell me what the hell is going on) but she's on bloody holiday so I had to find out myself!
Basically a woman called Sam wrote a post on her blog [oops I mean journalistic forum/website] entitled "Is Blogging The New Media?" which you can google if you want to read it or you can read it here and the rebuttal from the two ladies who it appears she is slagging off in the first blog post/article/whatever the hell I am supposed to call it
Now I am going to keep my view short and to the point and it is from my point of view, not the point of view of all beauty bloggers. I will swear which I normally don't like doing so if you are under erm...18? Lol close your eyes cover your ears and say lalalalalalal like I do when Jedward or Westlife are playing on the radio.
Point number one
I have had far more shit information forced upon me by makeup artists that fellow bloggers/unqualified makeup artists.
That being said the qualified makeup artists that I would recommend on youtube are Lisa Eldridge, Pixiwoo2 or Pixi2woo (why can't I remember her name)?, Gossmakeup artist and on blogger I recommend Lotstar or Lottie who used to be an acquantance from makeupalley but now does makeup to the stars in Hollywood. In real life the makeup artist that I would recommend is called Marva from the Mac Counter in Selfridges London, she is the only makeup artist EVER who has given me a makeover and I have not walked away and wiped it off afterwards.
Point number two
My blog contains my opinion, it's hardly bloody shocking since it's my blog! Let's be honest if I wanted to write about my love for Brie and write a different Brie related post everyday and call myself the bloody Queen of Cheese then I could do. Who's gonna stop me the blog police? Would someone come round and ask me if I had a qualification to write about cheese? Would they ask why I had a cheese press pass if I went to a wine and cheese evening? No they fucking wouldn't.....and now I want some cheese dammit.
I am sure if you see a post that I have written that you are interested in then you read it, or if you aren't you skip it for the day and have a look another time maybe. I am not bloody standing in internet cafes with an AK47 forcing people to look at my blog and making them agree with what I say, I know you as the reader have your own mind, I know that and I know you take from my reviews or posts what you want to - unfortunately the writer of the article thinks you are a pathetic sheep, how rude? I would never assume that a sheep would be dexterous enough to navigate a mouse and leave a comment, let alone go to House of Fraser and pick up a lipstick I suggested (and how would a sheep pay-do they have mastercard)? - Helen has now informed me that they do in fact use Baaa-rclaycard, so now you know haha!
My third and final point
I am generally an extremely easygoing person, I have had some really awful things happen to me over the years in my personal life and I realise that blogging, in the grand scheme of things is not exactly life and death.
The reason this has riled me is that she is trying to undermine blogs, now I write my blog, I enjoy my blog, I love my followers and I love the people that I follow. And if that stupid bitch wants to try and ruin that for me then she can just
GO AND DO ONE!

Nicely said hun! You said it so well and with humour, defiantly got me sniggering every other sentence. My favourite: ' I am not bloody standing in Internet cafes with an AK47 forcing people to look at my blog' I can imagine that, AK47 in one hand, lipstick in the other. Just fabulous xx
haha. Well said! The woman is probably a dried up old snatch with nothing better to talk about. x
@Kelly, exactly - sometimes I use a revolver but only if im really desperate for followers ;)
@Victoria - LOVING your use of the word snatch, I nearly choked laughing!
AWESOME! I hate people that put down blogs or put it past bloggers to actually be smart, helpful people. If one wants a reliable source of information, he or she should read a book. Seriously. Haha

@Coco Tai, thanks, exactly there are so many newspapers, books, films etc. with such misleading information that you can hardly say bloggers are misleading people any more than those forums x
"Would they ask why I had a cheese press pass if I went to a wine and cheese evening?"
Haha you are excellent! :) xx
@lucie, lol have been hungry ever since I wrote that! Are you in Francy lovely? I couldn't work out from your blog if you were and it had translated it for me into English?
well said!
blogs are a bit of fun and a way to share our opinions about the subjects we like :)
x
Hahahahaha! I love you and this is exactly why I continue to lurk about your blog!
If I wanted the opinion of a so called pro who thinks the all important neutral (snore) eye makeup needs more love than the "wacky" colors well then she is as pretentious and uptight as her Blog rant that she is trying to pass of as an article.
I trust the opinions of regular everyday women (ie bloggers) because a makeup artist will not be at my vanity in the morning to apply my daily face, it will be me a nobody who also happens to be a blogger.
Oh and just incase Sam reads this... I am also the owner of an indie cosmetics company and though it has been offered will not send freebies to Journalist/Makeup artists because they get paid to say that my cosmetics are fabulous. I do, have and will continue to send samples for review to beauty bloggers who offer only their honest opinion, view and expertise as a consumer. Why? Because I'm not trying to sell to a magazine or e-zine but to normal everyday consumers.
So Piss off "Sam"!
OK I think I'll go get some Brie now!
@Evil Angel= an indie cosmetics company? What is that? I will google now I must find out!
And in the grand scheme of things her article doesnt mean anything does it? I personally wouldnt even have acknowledged that article or its author. Silence is golden hunni.
xoxox
@Marcia - lol PMT my dear its been a week of crying and ranting ;)
You made me crave cheese! =D
It's all too much for my tiny brain to cope with. I think I'll sit and silently seeth.
x
brilliant!
i was also pretty fucking angry but couldnt get words out without mentioning punching her in the face..
love this. love you!
xx
I couldn't believe some of the comments people left on that post, they're so ignorant!
Agree with everything you've said except about Jedward, I love them haha!

you had me chuckling away to myself at my desk at work...now i'm imagining a sheep strolling (do sheep stroll?)over to the mac counter in harrods hehehe
Aside from the humour though I support everything you've said, it's your blog and you can write about whatever the hell you like...if people don't like it they don't have to read!
I've seen quite a bit of 'blogger bashing' atm and it seems to me that those doing the 'bashing' are quite simply intimidated by the honesty of most bloggers - they're not afraid to say what they feel, and it is because of this reason that many people prefer to read blogs.
The blogging community is exactly that...a community - we can ask questions, swap ideas etc and for many it makes the world of beauty a much more accessible and less scary place. If a minoirty of people want to try to cheapen this, the egg will be on their face, this community is only going to grow and get stronger and anyone who doesn't like it is just going to have to bloody deal with it!
*rant over* :)
.....still thinking about the sheep......lol
Thank you so much for this blog post! I'm so glad to see you defending yourself as well as other bloggers. I follow your blog because I want to, not--like you pointed out--because anybody forced me.
You're awesome. :) Keep doing what you're doing and we'll adore you even more!
I also read this and posted my own response on my blog. The sum of my response was that this argument is an old tired argument, less about beauty blogging, and more about blogging in general, and the lack of barriers to entry, and whether this is a "good thing". This is where media is now, and mainstream media and PR are now adapting. and besides, even Vogue has a blog and a twitter now!
I have read that article several times now, and I'll tell you what I told the other girls. Don't let it upset you. Blogging is highly popular and appreciated. You can't let one idiot that doesn't know what they're talking about get you all upset. In the end, THEY'RE still the ones looking for validation.
I have a qualification in Fashion and Lifestyle Journalism, and got a couple of years of experience working on magazines before entering the world of the 9-5.
Does this make me more qualified to write about beauty and fashion? No. In fact, I rely more on blogs than I do beauty magazines as you know you'll get an honest opinion. Magazines are ruled so much by advertisers it's hard to get a really honest review...I'd much rather see what a real person thinks of something, see how an eyeshadow or lipstick swatches and how well a shampoo works without there being a need to satisfy a PR or advertiser.
And this is why I blog myself - to show my own edits of the latest high street fashion, my favourite beauty items, talk about what I enjoy and share it with others. It's a great community and I love it :) xx
What utter bullshit she must be full of.
I'm a qualified, WORKING makeup artist yet I find everyone's makeup blogs charming & a brilliant read. I have unqualified women from all around the globe telling me about products that I'm yet to hear of & I couldn't be more grateful. I would never, ever look down on anyone's make up capabilities and why should I? No, they may not be as skilled as I am (but in some cases, more!), but would a hairdresser laugh at my ability to do hair? I bloody hope not and so it goes.
Well said, and you made me laugh with the cheese segment haha
xx
haha, im on the same week hunni.my poor boyfriend. We're not speaking today
:(
xoxox
wonderfully said! who gives anyone the right to say who can and cannot blog about whatever the heck they feel like?! everyone is entitled to an opinion and should be treated fairly. i applaud your speaking out!

(my little unprofessional blog LOL)
I'm relatively new to reading blogs, and there are now a few I follow regularly, and I really enjoy all of them. I read blogs to get someone elses opinion on the things I might want to buy or try out.
This so called professional comes across as jealous and incredibly self rightous, and she needs to give blog readers some credibility, unless it says so on the blog, I'm fairly certain the person who writes it isn't going to be a professional make up artist. I'm not a sheep I read blogs because I'm interested in the content if I wanted professional advice I'd look somewhere else for it!
Not everyone is after base neutral (boring) products, some do actually like to have a variety of colours in their make up collections, Sam Donald needs to realise this.
It's a big web out there, there's space for everyone and everything, but some people obviously feel threatened if others aren't doing things their way!
Thank you to everyone for your replies xx I apologise for all cheese cravings I created and all images of shopping sheep! x
Hey Sarah, thanks for linking to us and for writing this spirited defence of blogging - I think the overwhelming response to this issue proves that blogging isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Which is great news!
