I picked up both Mint Julips and Sweet Lips exfoliating lip scrubs from Lush around 2 weeks ago (yes I know I wasn't going to but I have a problem). Which is annoying since I have had a love/hate relationship with both of them ever since. My explanation:
Love - the idea behind them, natural products like you could make in your kitchen but just can't actually be bothered to do
Hate - the fact that this has been so messily put into the pot whenever I take the lid off I have to do it over a bin or sink to stop the sugar fallout oh and the labels had to be rearranged as they were wonky
Love - the scent of Mint Julep
Hate - the scent of Sweet Lips
Love - the taste of Mint Julep
Hate - fact that they are so bloody expensive for a bit of sugar and some oil. They cost £4.50 each so £9 for both
Love - erm i'm running out of ideas now
Hate - the fact that these make my lips sore and sting! Even if I rub very gently
My verdict is simple. I am not going to repurchase these scrubs. Yes if I rub hard they do get the dry skin off my lips, they also make them burn and feel very sore as they are just too rough for my lips.
However I have thought of a way to use them up - I will just take to eating them with a spoon out of my handbag on long train journeys or if I need a bit of a 'pick-me-up', well waste-not want-not!
If you see my review of The Body Shop Lip scuff here this is gentle but effective, a decent price since you don't end up with it all of your floor or face and it tastes lightly minty rather than being over the top sickly. I would overall recommend this lipscrub as being a lot more effective.
So any Lush products you love/hate or just think are totally overrated? Let me know!

ah i love the smell of honesty in the morning ;)
great review lovely!
I see where you're coming from and this is exactly why I havn't purchased them.. that and I have an existing lip scrub (body shop lipscuff) that doesn't sting and works perfectly. Love that you like it too! :)
have a great day xx
I'm glad somebody has spoken out against the evil that is LIP SCRUB! haha
I hate the gritty feeling. I know that's the point of them but I just want to wash it off right away. Also, the idea of having that much sugar right next to my teeth all day just weirds me out a little bit, especcially since you keep having to re-apply it. Where does it all go? Oh wait, I licked it all off again. That'll be good for my diet!
Great post :)

I love these but i am so lasy that i forget i have them and discard them after a week or so - I agree the labels are bad i had to try to find one that looked 1/2 decent before i purchased them and i hate the fact that every time you open the lid the flipping sugar comes out grrrr - I got the Bubblegum one and i love the scent
Never used this product but I've found a lot of people have said that they hurt their lips, even when rubbing gently. Think I might avoid.
Good review ^.^
xx
I do like how soft these make my lips but they are incredibly expensive and also REALLY messy!! you aren't alone ;) love the idea of just munching them though haha! xxxx
I bought the Mint Julips and I really like them. Yes they are a bit messy but used sparingly with a bit of careful application and they work wonders. No more brushing my chapped lips with a toothbrush and a bit of vaseline.
i think i'm going to avoid these, too. i'm not sold on a scrub for the lips.
Well I'm all for lip scrubs but this one is just too much sadly! I still love Lush but not loving this x
As a Lush lover, even I have to confess that Lush can be hit or miss. I def. hate their Sea Vegetable soap--it was SO not a big deal! But I lohohove Flying Fox, Dark Angels and Grease Lightning. I'll be sure to stay away from the lip scrubs. ;)
Hi! New follower. :D
Haha! Your comment about eating it just made me giggle a little. xD
Sad to hear they don't work as well as predicted, but thanks for warning us! :D
P.S. I entered your giveaway and STILL hasn't repost yet, I'm sorry (a bit busy with midterms & such), I'll post it by tonight. ^___^
I have a mostly hate relationship with Lush, but this was one product that I actually liked, randomly enough. I always find the body shop one too harsh on my lips, and this one worked well. I do get what you mean about it being sugar and messy though.
Hee hee i love that you're just going to eat them now :D
I really love the smell of the mint and bubbegum ones and was really tempted to pick one up, but it the end i couldn't justify spending almost a fiver on a small pot of sugar! I'm going to try to make my own.
I'm really sorry to hear that it actually hurt your lips!
Aww now I don't know what to do... I was going to ge the lipscuff but when I saw this I thought it'd be better!
Xx
