Myface Cosmetics

For those of you who watch my youtube videos you may remember that a couple of weeks ago in a haul video I picked up some Myface Cosmetics from Boots in Bluewater shopping centre.  They have a very large Boots there and I had not seen this brand anywhere else or in any smaller branches of Boots.

The idea behind Myface Cosmetics is "colours handpicked for your skintone by the world's top makeup artists' which sounds great, although from their website you can see they do only split skintone into pale, medium and medium/dark which doesn't exactly cover all skintones, they suggest that the medium/dark shades would be suitable for someone with a Fredia Pinto complexion which is hardly 'that' dark.  My problem with this is if you want to stand out as specifically catering to all skintones then why not actually cater to all skin tones! It seems a little silly to make the specific point that you are catering to different skin tones then quite obviously not catering for everyone.

My second problem was with the packaging versus the price.  Some prices for items in the range (in £) are:

Lipstick - £9.99
Lipgloss - £7.99
Eyeshadow trio - £9.99

This would be fine but the packaging is not exactly pretty.  Here is their £9.99 eyeshadow trio which has packaging reminiscent of Collection 2000 in the 90's

And what I am further confused by is that the packaging is different depending on whether you buy from the pale, medium or medium dark range.  As you can see below the pale range has white plastic packaging whereas the medium range has more shiny silver packaging, even though the prices are the same? The silver packaging looks much more expensive and classy and if I had a choice i would never really go for white plastic.  The silver looking packaging clearly can't cost any more to produce otherwise they wouldn't have priced them the same.
Some items from the Fair range - pic from their website

And here are some items from the medium range

So why does all of this irk me so much?  Because I really wanted to like this range! It has won numerous awards and been in Harpers, Grazia, Good Housekeeping etc.  I was rather sad to find out that the packaging and formulations did absolutely nothing for me at all.

Here is my video with the full review

I think they have this brand in the Boots in Westfield and not any smaller branches...

Anyway, thanks for sharing. I wasn't interest in this brand in the 1st place and don't think that will change either after reading your post. So thanks for saving me some time, so that I can focus on other things. ;-P

It's a shame when I brand doesn't live upto the hype. I agree that the packaging looks cheap, for that amount of money you really should expect more! I hate when brands put crappy brushes in packaging (even if it is cheap makeup - it's just pointless!)

Love the colours you picked out though!

Thanks for doing the reivews, I've seen this brand in magazines but have always just walked past their stands. Such a shame that all the products were disappointing x

This range makes me want to spit blood. Orange foundation, crubly shadows, sheer glosses. I remember buying so much stuff and binning it ALL in the same day. BAH humbug!

@Tali - I know what you mean! I threw the gloss away and the mascara has gone to one of my drawers which seems to be a mascara graveyard but I will try and use the blusher even though the stupid packaging annoys me!
