Philip Kingsley Elasticizer Review with Embarassing Pics!

14 February 2010

Rrp £23.50 for the above tub plus an uber sexy showercap

This is one of the items I was given free in my goody bag from the recent event however I *always* test out things for a good while before I post them on here which is why it's been a few weeks.
I may possibly have been the only person who had never heard about this? I googled it and found hundreds upon hundreds of hits. I also found out that Philip Kingsley is a Trichologist rather than just a hairdresser, very posh!

The claims are that this unique product delivers a rush of moisture inside the hair cuticle and is especially beneficial for extremely damaged hair. Visible results from one application will build with continued use. This super moisturising intensive treatment adds silkiness, suppleness, elasticity, bounce and strength. The clever ingredient combination continues to provide UV protection even after washing - helping prolong the life of colour treatments."

How to use, depending on whether your hair is normal or damaged you can either use this one a week, once a fortnight or once a month, so I picked once a week. You apply to damp hair before shampooing and then put on your (enclosed in the box) sexy PK shower cap and settle down for 10-20 minutes for it to do it's stuff.

Way too early in the morning for a face picture haha!

I see on the box that you can rinse it straight off or use it for 10-20 minutes but if I am using an expensive product such as this frankly I'm going to stick it on for 20 rather than totally waste it, in fact I think the longer you use this for the better, if you are having a long warm bath then I would wear this throughout the whole thing. After your time is up just shampoo and condition as normal.

These are my thoughts after once a week usage for 3 weeks - during this time I have stopped using any other conditioning 'treatments' that I normally use by Redken so that this is a fair test.

Rush of moisture - yes definitely, after using this and washing and conditioning my hair with my lovely Clynol hair goodies I had both moisturised and voluminous hair. My hair is pretty damaged at the ends due to the black colour being stripped out of it and this makes them feel instantly softer and silkier.

Visible results from one application - I could feel the results after one application but it has taken the 3 applications for me to visibly see that my hair is in better condition, I have less baby hair and frizzy bits around my parting and the ends look and feel softer.

This seems to have no scent, but then Philip Kingsley does have products in the range which promise not to be coloured or scented so I suppose this is no surprise really, at least it will suit everyone if it has absolutely no smell then nobody can dislike it! Consistency - this is very thick like a normal intensive conditioner. Usually I don't like tubs of product but I would find it really difficult to apply this if it came in any other container so the tub is a winner in this case!

Verdict - I think this product lives up to it's claims after a few uses, I think it's a bit ambitious to claim that after 1 use the results will be visible. I am so glad I have tried it and really want to try more from the range now. After a few uses you can really see the benefits you are getting from using this mask and I have had to use heat (like straighteners) much less as my hair is so easy to style and tame as it isn't so flyaway and dry and it also doesn't get as many kinks or knots in it .

However one thing I always wonder with these types of things is - do the results justify the cost? And to be honest I am not 100% sure as while I have gotten much better results with this than any drugstore product I have used, I have had similar results from products which are £18/19 whereas this is £23.50 - not a big difference obviously but still it is around £5 difference. I shall have to see with continued use if this trumps the (slightly) more inexpensive versions.

If you have any questions or I have missed something then leave me a comment x

There's also an extra-strength version called Elasticizer Extreme, for hair that's totally gone wrong - bad perm anyone?! So if you are having an extreme hair-mare then maybe look that up.

Any other products from Philip Kingsley I should try?

That sounds like it gave good results , but am with you on the "are expensive hair products really worth the price?" I went through a spate of using kerastase products after so many people raving about them, but if I'm honest? I cant really say they were that great.....I think sometimes when something costs that much we want to believe it's good and convince ourselves, when really it's proberly not....:) x

I have been using this for years, I can't believe you've only just heard of it! I pay £25 for it from John Lewis and it is worth every penny. My hair was ruined after a colour correction and this really fixed it. I only use it once every couple of weeks for maintenance and my hairdresser always tells me what great condition my hair is in. Oh, and a tub lasts months on my really long hair!
