Hi beauty fanatics! So the ever so lovely Sarah has let me take over her blog for a little review post :) Mwah ha ha! (Sorry for scary cartoon type laugh)!
The product she kindly sent me to review was the NYX lip-gloss 'Real Nude'-No 34. Now, I was really excited to receive this little beauty, as I had heard a lot about NYX on fellow blogger's sites and I don't know if it's because it's rare to buy here in the UK, but I have never found anywhere that stocks it?! If any of you know of any shops or websites you have got some NYX goodies off, then please let me know :)
Note from Sarah - you can get NYX here in the UK
Now before we talk good and bad points on this product, I just wanted to share with you what I thought of lip glosses.
Now before we talk good and bad points on this product, I just wanted to share with you what I thought of lip glosses.
Lip glosses always seem to spark a little debate in the Beauty world. It's like marmite, people either love them or hate them! I personally like lip glosses, as if you get the right shade and right shimmer, they can create beautiful effects on your lips and I always think with sun-kiss skin (either real or fake)!, lip glosses look a lot more flattering than lipsticks-which brings me on to my next mini discussion...
The War of Lipsticks and Lip glosses!
First to step into the pink ring, please give a cheer if you love 'Lipstick'?! (crowd applaud now)
Lipstick's strength is it's matt finish and smooth texture and 'lock-in colour' staying powder. A strong competitor!
Next, please welcome into the ring the tube of delight and shimmer- 'Lipgloss' (can i get a 'Woop woop'?!)
Lip glosses 'shimmer and shine' power and sometimes yummy scrummy scents, makes this a beautiful contender in the ring too!
Me and my friends always somehow (usually when 'oo-ing' and 'arraing' over make-up counters), get into the debate of what's best, a lip-gloss or a lipstick? I use to say 'Lipgloss please' without even questioning it. However, due to getting more into MAC lipsticks...my opinion could now start to sway...
Let's see if this NYX glossy can keep me on the gloss side!
To start with, the size. The size of the tube is 9.50g which is an average size for a gloss. Next, the packaging design. Nothing super fancy or exciting, just a simple lip-gloss tube really.
The important part, the colour and texture. NYX call this a 'Real nude', so I automatically expected it to be a lot lighter and more skeen that it actually is. I would describe the colour as more of a 'brown pink' actually. When I first did swatch of it on my hand, I quite liked the colour and was looking forward to applying it to my lips. When I went to actually apply the gloss, I noticed the smell straight-away! Sarah did mention she thought it had a hint of watermelon to it, however it reminded me of cleaning detergent! Not a good start...:(
Once it was applied, I was actually quite surprised how different the colour looked on my lips to what it actually looked like in the tube. It is slightly darker than I thought and at first, I really wasn't sure. However, the more I looked at it, the more I got use to it and quite liked it. I could now see why it was called 'Real nude', as it wasn't making my lips look lighter than they actually are. In fact, the gloss enhanced my natural lip colour.
Overall, I think this is a nice shade. Not exciting or ground-breaking, but then I suppose it wouldn't be if it's classed as a 'nude' shade. I think it's great for natural looks and I think people would wear it if they wanted to just enhance their natural lip colour and it's great for a day-time look, however I personally would want more colour if it was a night-time occasion.
The only thing which would put me off this gloss is the smell. I don't think any girl would like people to smell (or taste if your lucky ;)) a cleaning detergent on your lucsious lips!
However, I would try NYX again and as I said, anyone that can recommend some cute shades in either glosses or lippies and where to get them from, if they could leave a comment on my little blog thefashiontellersnotesI would be ever so grateful :)
Thanks again Sarah for giving me the chance to be a guest blogger on your fabulous blog and I hope all your pretty followers enjoyed the review?!
It would be great to know if anyone else has tried this gloss?
Love and Sparkles,
Claire
xoxo
