Smashbox Function5 Self Adjusting Powder Foundation Review

Light L1-L2

Amongst my many goodies from Ultimate Beauty Gems I got this Smashbox Function5 Self Adjusting Powder Foundation. This foundation costs £9.95

Smashbox advise that this powder foundation is "non-drying, oil-absorbing powder foundation provides completely adjustable coverage"

The powder contains vitamins A, C, B5, and E, soybean extract to reduce redness, and corn extract.  It is oil-free, fragrance-free, and paraben-free.

Shade Range - Six shades are available covering Fair, Light, Medium, and Dark skintones, I have Light L1 to use when I am fake tanning  - I looked at the reviews on Makeupalley and it made me giggle that some people were complaining that it made them look fake tanned, its a really buildable coverage so I assume they were just slapping way too much on with the sponge..you can apply this really sheerly so I have no idea how that happened to them!
The compact is made of Nars style material so it feels rubbery!
Pretty but it means the dirty finger smudges are apparent
It has a good sized mirror inside

And you get a nice sponge to use with it

Swatch of LF1-LF2

After being seriously unimpressed with the Smashbox Halo powder when I realised that instead of making my skin look nice it made my skin look old, dry and liney I didn't exactly have high hopes for this powder foundation and so I was incredibly surprised to find that I actually love it!  As you can see from the back of the box below it's called Function5 as there are 5 different ways to apply for 5 different levels of coverage...well I usually use it in the same way which is - 3 Medium - Apply with FACE and BODY BRUSH #19

If you use fake tan then this foundation is perfect, you can apply it in loads of different ways to get more or less coverage, so for instance when I am just fake tanned I just dust on a tiny bit where I get oily such as my nose and chin and then when it is wearing off more I apply more all over my face and buff it in well.  The coverage is perfect for me as its so adaptable so it saves that really irritating problem of having to buy different foundations and powders for different coverage (well I already have a lot but you know..in theory).

This is the brush and oh my god it is the softest thing ever, its like stroking your face with ...a kitten? I'm not sure but it is certainly the softest brush I own and it applies this foundation flawlessly

It makes the application of powder, powder foundation and bronzer so flawless as you can just buff and buff and buff until it looks airbrushed.  I quite like that the handle is red, most of my other brushes are black so it makes a pretty change. The fact that it is rated 4.6 out of 5 on Makeupalley isn't surprising to me at all.  I haven't had any shedding and I have washed it a few times and use it nearly every day.

Which leads me to ask...what's your favourite makeup brush of all time?

Great review. I think I may have to try this one. I haven't fake tanned in a while but this would be great to get before I start back on it.

Make up brush wise I am still trying to find mine. Funnily enough I love the little brushes I got in my Kat Von D palettes. I've found them perfect for applying gel liner!
