If you work in an office it's a fine line between dressing with some personality and looking stylish or dressing like you are off to a funeral in the same black suit..again.
You don't need to wear matching suits to look smart, coordination is the key and my absolute staple for work is a blazer, as I am tall a boyfriend style works best, but if you are shorter or need to accentuate your waist then pick a neater fitted blazer.
Dresses are the holy grail of smart stylish workwear. Shifts come in a variety of colours and can be worn with flats and a cardigan for everyday and heels and a blazer for meetings or presentations.
I definitely think you should embrace your femininity and wear a nice belt, it will cinch in your waist and it can really bring an outfit together.
Wrapover dresses are fantastic for those with big babylons and high neckline shifts are perfect for those less boobalicious.
Two smart bags are all you need one in failsafe black and another in your favourite colour, you will tend to buy accessories in your favourite colour so the bag will match those and black can be used if your accessories lean to the neutral side or you need to look smarter.
For work court shoes are the most professional, mary janes are also smart but slightly younger (and a lot easier to walk in when the office is carpeted) wedges are brilliant for summer and plain ballet flats are perfect if you don't do heels or get sore tootsies. I always wear flats when I am sat at my desk and have a pair of heels in my cupboard for when I am in a meeting or walking around.
Skirts that work in an office tend to be A-line, pencil or draped, if you are wearing a tailored skirt you can get away with a looser more flowy top and visa versa. Please don't wear it too short, it's just not professional.
Here are some of my ideas
Things to avoid
Avoid neon colours and things that are too high fashion, accessories can be large but just not too showy and blingy, stick to more muted tones, you want to look stylish and elegant, not like Lady Gaga has come to do some filing.
My tips
Don't wear anything too tight, short or low cut - people judge on first impressions and you don't want to be remembered as 'tits from the 4th floor' because people remembered your baps rather than your name!
Use your boss or other women in the office as a radar - if it's a new job err on the side of caution, wear a dress and nice shoes with a blazer, and take a cardie to change into if the vibe is more relaxed.
Invest in some decent workwear as you spend more hours of the week at work than you have at the weekend, they need to last
Spend more on basics and remember if you're sitting at a desk most people spend all day only seeing your top half so don't skimp on decent fitting tops.
So I hope this was helpful. Hopefully one day I will be able to take pictures or do OOTD with my own clothes, as I can't at the moment as I have nowhere to film them but I hope this is of some use until then!
Let me know if you have any office wear tips xx

Hahaha @ "Tits from the 4th floor" that made me giggle!
Great advice and tips Sarah, Im sure loads of women who work in an office will find this really helpfull.
xxxx
I loved this post because I spend more than half my life in workwear. I don't even own a suit anymore because, as I work in advertising, I think I've got to dress a bit more creatively. Saying that, I mostly wear skinny black jeans, black ballet pumps and a blouse of some sort. You're right about a blazer being fab though - much more modern than a suit! xx
Love this post - I am so boring with my work clothes. Black trousers, vest top and cardigan every day!!! This has given me a bit of inspiration!
Love this post, I hopefully have a job interview coming up and this is quite useful.
Great post Sarah!!!
I swear you are veeeeeeery stylish, i´ll expect your outfits ;)
Great advice! Thanks!
great post! Totally agree on the advice, and on the choice for your polyvore!
Suits make me snore too!
I'd rather use a nice dress that's not "nun-like" or a nice mid-lenght skirt with basic tops, playing with accessories (like brooches and scarves) to make them appear different everytime ;)
@Jo - we give everyone nicknames lol. There is one bloke who I swear to god is nicknamed 'big head bloke' lmao!
@Lucy that's so lucky, I work in Legal so it's actually in my contract 'no jeans'!
@Claire yay i hope this helps
@Rosie good luck with your interview hun xx
@82firemoon thanks hun
