Top Tips for Growing Your Hair and Keeping it Healthy

I have uploaded a video about that which you can see here about my current hair products, and different ways I like to style it but here are some general tips for keeping your hair in good condition.

General Tips for Healthy Hair

- Don't ever skip conditioner - unconditioned hair is harder to maintain and accumulates damage fast. Condition your hair every time you wash and use a deep conditioner once a week.

- Make sure you eat a decent amount of protein in your diet for healthy hair and have food with B vitamins in especially B5 or take a B vitamin complex. I take one in liquid form as I hate tablets, it's from Holland and Barrett.

- When you blowdry always use a heat protection spray and make sure you keep the hairdryer moving to distribute the heat evenly so your hair isn't frazzled. Try and have a few days off from any heat styling per week - maybe at the weekend if this is when you relax.

- Whilst backcombing is great for volume it can be really damaging to hair so you should try and limit the days of the week that you back-comb and try not to do the same section of hair over and over again.

- To increase volume for thin and limp hair - do not have your hair razor cut at the hairdressers as this makes your hair look frayed and tapered, leaving it look stringy and even thinner. Too many short layers also make hair thinner, stick to longer thicker layers for volume (vs if you have thick hair this would work quite well for you).

- Use natural bristle and mixed bristle hairbrushes that are more gentle to finer hair and try not to fiddle and twist your hair as this can damage hair and cause breakage. You can get brilliant inexpensive brushes in Boots by a brand called Denman or The Body Shop also do lots of lovely hairbrushes.

Coloured hair

- if you get your hair dyed or dye it yourself the best way to extend your colour is to use an in shower toner if you are blonde or a colour enhancing shampoo if you are brunette or redhead, my favourites have always been Aveda, I used their amazing Blue Malva shampoo and conditioner once a month when I was blonde and I need to repurchase their  clover conditioner now my hair is brunette, it really extends the life of your hair dye and keeps it looking bright and shiny.

-your hair is likely to be super dry if you have it dyed so make sure you use a conditioning treatment once or twice a week and don't wash your hair every day, try for every other day to begin with if you are a compulsive washer and pep it up on non washing days with dry shampoo.

Some great tips there, thank you :)

I'm using some items from the Phyto range.. The Jojoba mask smells wonderful, I love it!! Ive only used it 3 times (I managed to go 3 days without washing with this shampoo.. I know, it probably sounds a bit yucky, but its ok, honest!). I'm going to give it longer before I review it, but so far, so good! Oh, and I've had much much less fallout, yey!

Ive just started following your blog (today) so Im off to check more posts (and then check out your videos!).

Thanks again for the tips :)

i have super dry, delicate hair and i SWEAR by the shu uemera green line hair masque. it's amazing! well...actually the whole shu for hair line is amazing, esp the serum!

i don't actually use a brunette hair colour shampoo at the moment, i use two different keretase line ones (for shampoo & conditioner) and then use the chromo thermique as a heat protectant and colour enhancer.

i've never tried the brands you listed! i really need to drag my bum over to holland & barrett for a b vitamin complex and biotin for my nails!

Fab post! I like hair posts, they give me hope! ;) Need to come back and watch your video. I have been using Morrocan Oil and I am very impressed. I think it helps to maintain health which in turn helps growth. I love it!
