I was contacted by Sally from Bonbonbalm who is a plant scientist. Bonbonbalm is her new company specialising in lip balms and they are differerent as they use only natural ingredients and where possible they are also organic and fair-trade which is definitely something I commend her for.
I do wonder if there has been any research into the link between the chemicals in lip products and the amount women in general ingest over say - 1 year? I would be interested to see if it does our body any damage. I would much rather use a nice natural product considering I seem to eat/lick whatever is on my lips.
The Ingredients
Shea butter
This beautifully creamy ingredient comes from the seed of the African Shea tree. Only the highest quality shea butter is used in bonbon balms to soothe and repair the lips.
Coconut oil
Coconut oil comes from, yes you guessed it, coconuts! Coconut oil is a great moisturiser. Used in bonbon balms it softens lips gives a beautiful shine.
Carnauba wax
Known as the queen of waxes, carnauba wax comes from the leaves of Copernicia prunifera, a palm tree from Brazil. This wax is added to our balms to help stop moisture escaping from the lips.
Blackcurrant Seed Oil
The seeds of the blackcurrant plant are rich in many nutrients including Omega 6 and Omega 3 fatty acids in the optimum ratio for nourishing and rejuvenating skin.
Sea Buckthorn Extract
The bright orange berries of this plant are packed full of skin nourishing goodies. Used in our bonbon lip balms it promotes rejuvenation and has an anti-inflammatory effect on the lips.
Vitamin E
Sunlight and pollution can harm our skin, producing free radicals that attack our cells. Vitamin E targets these free radicals and protects our skin from damage.
The balms come in lots of gorgeous flavours but I picked the plain original version so I could focus on the formulation and feel on the lips. Some available flavours are Pina Colada, Caramel and Mojito.
Pros
The little jars are really cute and I like the logo
The unscented version was just that, not scented and had no taste which was good
This feels nice on the lips and keeps them moisturised for a good few hours
The finish isn't too glossy it's a nice sheen

This left my lips very moisturised, on par with my Burt's Bees stick I would definitely say
Good value for money
If you don't like the plain one there are lots of scents, Pina Colada sounds great for Summer
Con
The only con I could find is that this does feel a teeny bit gritty on your lips if you don't rub it in properly, if you rub the balm between your thumb and finger before applying it melts the product a little with your body heat and stops this happening so I would suggest doing that if you buy one.
Overall - a good value natural product which you can feel safe putting near your mouth as it doesn't contain any nasty chemicals.

I own about a million lip balms! And I always have to try new ones, especially all natural ones, these look great, shame no SPF for Summer though...x
I have a marmite relationship with them, either love them or hate them. My favourite at the moment is a body shop lip butter yes yes yes oui oui oui.
I am quite intrigued by this one though xx
I like the sound of lipbalms but i feel naked without colour on my lips so like a tinted balm if anything. Yo have nice full lips so i bet anything looks good on you. Lucky thing x
I like the idea of this :)

I love lipbalms too. I am currently using Burts Bees which I was attracted to because it is 95% natural, so this is definitely something I'd love to try!
