Out with the old and in with the new

I get so many requests to do a collection post but the problem is my 'collection' was just full of stuff that I wasn't using.  So I have had a bit of a clearout in my house and my makeup had had a bit of a trimming.

It's out with the old and in with the new!  I still haven't finished everything and it's a work in progress.  I have got rid of some dodgy old clothes and my work suits as I just don't find them flattering any more and I bought the jackets when I was flat chested so they don't really work these days!

Here is the makeup that I said goodbye to.

Byeee slap!

Some items were old and past their use by times, some of the mascaras were used up and some products were just rubbish (yes Dallas I am looking at you)!  No blog sale, as I gave the usable items away to friends and  I did receive some items pictured for free.

The New Hair Plan

The next change up is going to be my hair.  I absolutely hate getting my hair done at the hairdresser but it really is becoming necessary.  On the advice of the hairdresser who did my hair at an event I am going to have a proper fringe cut in and some layers through the back plus a trim.  For the colour I am having another consultation one day next week but basically I just need a salon that listens to me and gives me a mid brown colour that isn't so red toned, I don't care how much they tell me it warms up my face, because as the colour fades it just gets redder and redder and redder and it irritates the hell out of me.  I mean I do not want luminous red hair!  I am also going to ask for some highlights but I want those really thin highlights that aren't stripy and obvious.  Is this called baleyage or baliage I have no idea if it is?

This is my hair now

The side part fringe that was cut in doesn't really seem to work as my hair refuses to part anywhere but the middle!  As you can see it's just one colour brown and has faded to a reddish brown. It's too dark for me at the moment.

Hair-spiration.
Forgetting  their faces, figures and probably their bank balances I also really love the hair of these girls

They are both Victoria's secret models which is where I saw their hair 'in action' and the highlights really make their hair have a bit more interest.  I have never had highlights before - is it scary?

Have you been having a clear out?  Buying new clothes or makeup for the new season?

Oh. I am FOREVER wanting VS hair ... It's still a fantasy though. I just cannot style it that way :(

hiya..the last highlights i got were a disaster. the foils were left on too long and the colour was baaad that did not suite my complexion and i had to pay extra at a different salon to fix the mess. the experience left my hair very bad condition and money wasted. the best hair dressers are the honest ones where they look at your hair and tell you how it is without all the fluff they throw in. if you do not want reddish brown you must say it very loud and clear and ask to see swatches of the colours they are proposing. good luck with it and hopefully it will be what you want :)

hiya i had a disaster with the last hairdressers when i wanted a full head of highlights. i was left with a very bad job and damage to my hair. the foils were left too long and the wrong shades were used. i had to pay extra at a different salon to fix the mess..i think you have to be very clear with what you want and repeat a 100 times what you dont want. specify what you want and make sure you are happy with what the are saying and ask to see swatches so you know they are on the same page as you...good luck!

I have highlights and it's always gone really well I get mine done with foils which is easier than using the cap method

As a rule, I get rid of anything in my wardrobe that I haven't worn in 3 months. A few months back I decided to do the same for my makeup and it has trimmed my collection RIGHT down! I now feel I can appreciate my products more and show them a little bit of love equally. I'm really enjoying it!

I love highlights but can't afford to maintain them unfortunately :( you'd look gorgeous with blonde highlights!

The pics shows how I want my hair! My hair is really dark brown now, and as it fades it gets redder like you say! What do i do, slap more dye on it!! I have a terror of the hairdressers after I accompanied my friend to a discount type one, the lady didnt stop chopping and my friend went from pocahontas lenght hair to a bowl cut!! Im thinking of going to tony and guy, have you ever been there? Are they nice? Great Post xx

I've been selling loads of my big old clothes on ebay. I've already got quite a lot of new season stuff for my wardrobe but I need some new powder and eyeshadow (still thinking of that urban decay pallete you reviewed)to refresh my make up bag!

You hate Dallas?? I can't believe it! Just bought it today and am in LOVE with it. Ah well... one person's treasure is another one's trash (quite literally lol). I must say, your current hair looks gorgeous on you (even if that's not exactly what you might want to hear!). xx

@Hinna we can dream!

@Maysam good idea with the swatches I will definitely ask to see them.

@Louise what the hell is the 'cap' method? That sounds scary I thought they were always done in foil?

@ Computergirl exactly, too much stuff just means more tidying up!

@neekeexoxo lets hope so on the hair! x

@ChrissyDee I definitely agree, no point keeping stuff you don't use.

@xDiamondsandPearlsx

Actually that's where I am going toni and guy, I only like effi and lyndsey from covent garden branch though, the rest i have been to are crap

@legseleven7 yep that is the diorshow, it started off well and then went like glue!

@Laura I just end up giving the clothes to charity, with ebay I always end up getting done over and stiffed for the money.

@Stephanie Dallas doesn't work with my skintone hun, it makes me look grubbby!

@Gaby aha Balayage!

@Steph xx ah it smashed hun I dropped it on a tiled floor and crash all the shadows went funny.

@Patricia to be fair it was about 3 years old!

I love having sort outs and feeling accomplished because I've gotten rid of stuff. You don't like Benefit Dallas? :O If you hadn't thrown it away, I would have happily bought it off of you.
I hate going to the hairdresser too. I've taken to snipping my own hair now, which probably isn't the best idea...

From what I 've read on some hairstylist's interview (and if I remember it correctly), balayage (or however its pronounced) is when the highlights are not separated from the rest of the hair by the aluminum foils - the hairdresser/colorist picks up a strand, adds die (or bleach or whatever) and when done, lets the highlighted hair sit on the rest of the hair while it develops.
The effect is definitely more natural/less obvious to the eye, but I don't think it can be done for a full head of highlights, I think it's mostly used to frame the face and for the crown, but again not 100% sure!
Hope this helps!
Good luck w the hair, I know I hate it when the natural redness of my hair comes through, so I sympathise completely!

xx
