From what I have found, Semi-Permanent Mascara is also called Lash Dipping and is different in both effect and application compared to eyelash tinting or dying.
Different brands seem to offer different promises but most say the effect lasts from 3-6 weeks which would depend presumably on how quickly your lash cycle is as it can range from 30-90 days.
So what is the treatment?
The treatment is described as a jelly-like coating that is applied to the lashes and cured (or set) using a cold air method in a salon environment by a professional technician.
What is the point of having it done?
The finish mimics the look of mascara. Instead of just dying the lash like a tint it also provides lift, separation, volume and hold so you don't need to wear mascara. I have seen brands claim that once the lashes have been cured they are water, sweat and heat proof.
I have some personal questions
I will try this treatment out if I can find anyone offering it as I would like to know:
- Does it really look that good?
- Are the lashes curled and if so does this drop over time?
- Does it dry out your lashes?
- Does it damage your natural lashes?
- Is there aftercare i.e. such as lash sealant?
- Do they layer it like normal mascara or is it just 1 coat?
What do you think about this new treatment? Have you had it done - if so what did you think?

@rock or not - it is very new and I have only recently heard about it x
@Glitter and Love- yep mine are blonde too, although never had mine tinted
@Get Gawjus - I don't think it is available in the UK yet I couldn't find anyone or anywhere x
is it like an eyelash perm but with colour?
@Harpreet - no it seems more like a half open eyed application of a lash tint-type product that is then cured on the lashes to set it, there isn't any perming x
This sounds interesting! Would love to try this out too.
I'm going to look into it, will let you know if I find any more info.x
Hi there, I am a trainer for a company that is launching a semi permenant mascara called MYscara at the scottish beauty show this month, the company is called Glam Lash and are also suppliers and trainers for the semi permenant lash extensions too, looks like it will be a very exiting product!! looking forwards to training therapists in this tratment x
I have asked a few questions re: ingredients and the main ingredient is formaldehyde. Formulated to be a coloured glue like substance that is applied to the lashes and then set. I have a few concerns - 1. the use of formaldehyde near my eyes (as it causes severe irritation) and should only have <0.2% base in any product 2. Cost vs. a lash tint and perm. The price is the same and a tint and perm lasts 3 months where as a semi permanent mascara lasts 2 - 6 weeks. 3. damage to the lashes 4. Waking up with a heavy mascara like feeling on my lashes - I would never want to open my eyes!
14zr - You can't really compare it to a lash tint and perm though, as its a completely different treatment. This is a semi permanent mascara so it is obviously designed to look like a mascara, some people's lashes are not suitable for perming and the fibres in the semi permanent mascara can built up really fine lashes which a lash tint can't.
Re -the ingredients. Which brand is that for? There are many so would be nice to know which brand contains formaldehyde at the wrong level. Thanks.
