Heathrow Airport Beauty and Competition Link

30 September 2010

The beauty products in Terminal 5 are housed in the sleek black shopping experience of World Duty Free which looks like a branch of Sephora. The multi-brand travel retail shop, had done a great job with both its services and brands available and I love the special products that are only available when you are traveling which just make the whole experience more exciting.

For example these Thierry Mugler mini perfume box sets are perfect presents to pick up if you are going home for Christmas or just as a little treat to yourself so you can try a few different perfumes rather than just buying one.

Or you could pick up one of the airport-only makeup palettes that make travel beauty a doddle as they encompass everything from mascara to powder all in one little compact.

If that wasn’t enough there are special gift boxes with great discounts for example YSL Faux Cils mascara comes in a box of 2 with a generous discount.

The gorgeous Chanel and Jo Malone concessions sell the house’s entire ranges of products and after you have shopped until you drop you can have a gorgeous hand massage at Jo Malone or pop to Be Relax in Terminal 5B for a back massage or a go on the massage lounge chairs.

Victoria’s Secret – I love my goodies from this delectable brand although there were many other gorgeous things available. I was advised that the brand was a hit with footballers in duty free picking up presents for the missus (or ogling the VS angels perhaps).

If I was going on holiday myself I would definitely make sure to save up my pennies and take a trip to the Prada boutique as well, the buttery soft leather bags were calling my name!

Enter the prize draw to win a selection of duty free products up to the value of £5,000!!

TRAVEL MUST-HAVES

Never use Mascara or Bronzer again?

I'd stop using the bronzer, you can surely find a brown eyeshadow that can double as some sort of bronzer?
That's my plan, I can't live without mascara I wear about 3/4 coats every day, my eyelashes are blond so I look like a pig without them!

Only be able to buy high end make-up or drugstore make-up again?

High End make-up. I get very excited with a new YSL Rouge Volupte, Mac lipstick or Rouge Bunny Rouge Eyeshadow.
I have drugstore staples but they aren't really that exciting.

Be In Love or Be Loved?
Be loved. Image if your mum or your hubbs didn't love you? Eeesh that would be horrible.

Go out with chipped nail varnish or unshaven legs?

Unshaved legs. My body hair is blonde (the hair on my head is blond-ish naturally) and have done quite a lot of IPL so it's basically not noticeable.

Go out with messy hair or no make-up?

Messy hair. My hair always looks messy even after I style it, oh to be rich and have hair and makeup before I leave the house everyday ;P

Leave the house with a bright orange tan or burnt ginger peroxide-gone-wrong ginger hair?

Orange tan is one thing but orange hair - Heeeelll to the N.O.

It were winter forever or summer forever?

Summer forever, if I could live somewhere with the climate of L.A. then I would.

Have permanent 2 inch roots or permanently unplucked brows?

Permanent 2 inch roots. I'm taller than a lot of people so unlikely they can see the top of my head anyway ;P

Leave the house with dried toothpaste drool or crusty yellow sleep eyes?

Toothpaste drool, I cannot stand crusty sleep eyes, one of my pet peeves it makes me want to gag!

Give up all MAC or all Illamasqua products?

I'd have to give up Illamasqua, I love their pigments and nail varnishes but cannot live without Mac's fix plus, lipsticks, lipglosses and pressed powder.

I tag anyone else that wants to do it! xx

NOTD Essie Merino Cool

The Fall collection from Essie includes an array of must-have shades from deep, seductive shades to little light numbers perfect for daytime.

Merino Cool- a perfect creamy mix of lilac and grey.  I see this as a mid point polish between OPI's You don't know Jacques and Sephora by OPI's Metro Chic.

The colour is opaque in 1 thick coat or 2 thin coats, dries well and doesn't chip as easily as some of the Essie polishes I have tried.

An all round winner! I think next up will be Sew Psyched which I think has become pretty popular with other bloggers.  I got the mini set so I could try out all of the shades (and seriously I only use most polishes 1-5 times so it's a waste otherwise).

What do you think - Sew Psyched next or Little Brown Dress?

Whitening Toothpastes

28 September 2010

I am obsessed with white teeth.  I was recently sent two different whitening toothpastes to try out.  I have used both of them up now so I feel I can do a full review.

Yotuel Whitening Toothpaste

Manufactured by Bio Cosmetics Laboratories.  Yotuel has a patented formulation which includes Xylitol and Fluoride.  Xylitol is a natural ingredient obtained from Birch trees which protects teeth from demineralisation and Flouride helps to protect enamel and strengthen teeth.  Yotuel cleans stains without being abrasive as it contains phyrosphosphates and enzymes which clean without harming your gums.

The difference between this toothpaste and other toothpastes is it contains and increased amount of Xylitol  which is the active ingredient.  Xylitol fights tooth decay and reduces plaque.  The toothpaste also contains potassium which is often used in sensitive teeth toothpastes to numb the mouth.  The selling point is that the toothpaste doesn't contain detergents and is therefore suitable for sensitive gums.

This toothpaste does remind me of a sensodyne style toothpaste as it is the same colour and has the same taste.  I did find the toothpaste better at removing stains than sensodyne and it is also very good if you have mouth ulcers, I get them quite a lot when I feel ill and this toothpaste is brilliant if you get them or canker sores as it doesn't sting your mouth at all.

Personally I wouldn't have realised that this was a specific whitening toothpaste if this had been a blind test, it removed day to day discolouration well but didn't make my teeth look any whiter or brighter.   The price for one tube is  £8.99 which does put me off slightly as we get through a toothpaste tube a fortnight in my house, so it's not very economical.   Overall I would recommend this for people with sensitive teeth and mouth ulcers as it is very gentle if you have these problems.

RRP £8.99 from www.cupidandgrace.com

Beverly Hills Formula Toothpaste  - New Total Enamel Sensitive

Beverly Hills Formula are my favourite brand of toothpastes and the new Total Enamel Sensitive product  is another toothpaste that claims to whiten whilst protecting sensitive teeth.  With similar packaging and effects to the standard whitening toothpaste this does make teeth feel smoother when you run your tongue over your teeth than the regular version therefore it does seem to work in it's claims of improving the enamel as that is the coating on your teeth.  This also contains Xylitol and Flouride although I am not sure what percentage as it doesn't seem to say on their website.

Overall I prefer this toothpaste to the Yotuel version as it tastes more minty and makes me mouth feel fresher and gives me that smooth feeling when I run my tongue over my teeth.  It also has a better price point especially as it's sold in Superdrug, Boots and even Asda so you can usually find a 2 for 1 offer or 3for2 offer somewhere.  RRP is £3.99 and as I always say, it was found to remove over 90% of tooth stains on BBC's Watchdog programme!!

Do you care which toothpaste you use?  Have you had your teeth whitened?

Nails Inc Queensgate Mews and Embracing The Pale

27 September 2010

It’s definitely the time for Autumn/Winter nail varnish. I am back to dark colours and I really do love them.  Brights are fun but I am definitely a black/red/purple girl.

Thankfully this year Nails Inc agree with my choices and have got this trend covered with their new range of darker, muted shades to compliment the hues spotted on this season’s catwalks.

These four limited edition colours also boast THE must have nail colour  Lowndes Square. This perfect shade of lilac mink will, I am sure, be a favourite among many but personally my favourite is Queensgate Mews which is today’s NOTD. Gorgeous!  Perfect for Thursday night.

The A/W Collection contains:

Lowndes Square–a unique shade of lilac/mink
Duke of Wellington Place–the perfect gunmetal grey
Queensgate Mews–a sultry glossy black grape hue
Palace Garden Terrace–this season’s answer to greige

The new A/W collection colours from nails inc. are available as a set for £25.00 or on their own for £10.50 on line.

Available now from  www.nailsinc.com

Embracing the Pale

I have decided to embrace the paler side of life for a week or two.  As much as I love fake tan I have pretty good skin these days and since the outfit, makeup and nail varnish for Thursday's night out is along the goth detective lines (black, black and more black) I thought I would embrace the porcelain ghostly whiteness my skin naturally is (back to not wearing foundation because it's too dark) well, at least until the weekend.

I must say it's certainly a lot less effort but eeeeww I can't stand looking at my arms and legs without fake tan, I look like corned beef - all mottled!

Do you like coloured nailpolish or dark? How do you feel about fake tanning/not fake tanning?

This week: Nars, House of Harlow, Boots and bla di bla di bla

26 September 2010

NARS EOTD Recreation

A couple of weeks ago I went to Space NK and picked up the Nars Sugarland eyeshadow duo and Mekong single shadow. I tried to recreate the look that was done for me that day, just using the lighter colour from the Sugarland duo rather than the other colour that the makeup artist used on me (as I have no idea what that was)!

I think it went quite well, I used brown liner instead of black (the brown end of the 24/7 liner that came with my Urban Decay Naked Palette). I absolutely love those 24/7 liners and would wholeheartedly recommend them over all other liners for pigmentation on the lash-line and waterline. For example they make Benefit's Bad Gal pencil look like the load of rubbish that it is.

House of Harlow Jewellery

House of Harlow is a range of jewellery by Nicole Ritchie. Putting aside Nicole's bizarre lifestyle choices when she was friends with Paris Hilton I really do love her style and her look these days. The brands she designs for: Winter Kate and House of Harlow are both rather pricey for a lot of items but the jewellery is very reasonably priced and also very unusual.

Some items seem rather Aztec inspired, others are peacock related and another range I like has a lot of keys.

You can often find different items at different shops so here are some that sell it, Asos does as well but since they have such appalling customer service I refuse to shop with them any more so ..there! havetolove my-wardrobe

As much as I do love the jewellery from other brands this is my absolute favourite as it is gorgeous, brilliant quality and well priced and also my ears are so sensitive but I can wear these earrings all day with no allergy issues.

David and Goliath

I love this tshirt, it's so true! I often pretend to be using the phone so people don't talk to me, to get out of buying the big issue from the crazy pink dreadlock woman near work, so I don't get attacked by clipboard wielding nutters etc. You can buy this and many other hilarious tshirts here

Boots Extracts Brazil Nut Body Butter

I bought this when I was in a rush and didn't really think too much about it. But it turned out to be really delicious smelling and a brilliant moisturiser to boot! There are many different scents available and they all cost around £7.50 so quite a bit cheaper than the Body Shop butters which are quite similar so great value for money and it contains fairtrade ingredients.

This is obviously a thick buttery moisturiser but it sinks in really quickly and doesn't leave your skin sticky, shiny or greasy. The Brazil Nut scent is gorgeous although not much like brazil nuts in my opinion, it smells more like shea or cocoa butter. As I have nearly finished I think I might pick up the shea butter version for winter as it is for dry skin and my legs are already getting really dry.

My Lovely Blouse

Hey it's hard taking a picture of your own abdomen! This was from River Island and I have still seen it in shops but it's not on the website any more, its brilliant with jeans and a vest underneath or tucked into high waisted trousers or a skirt for work.

Clothes I want!

In typical 'me' style I saved up for my winter boots, went to order them and they had sold out of my flipping size! Damn you All Saints you bloody pain in the arse!

So does anyone have any sort of inside scoop with All Saints? I want the Black Military Boots in a size 6 / 39.

So what have you been into this week? Found any nice winter clothes?

Burlesque

25 September 2010

I have been waiting and waiting for this film to be released. I think with Cher and Christina this is really going to be a brilliant film, Christina really has an amazing voice and it will be nice to hear her sing something that shows off the range and her talent.  If you haven't seen the trailer here it is:

OPI are releasing a 12 shade Burlesque collection when the film is released

Bring on the Bling and The Show Must Go On

I have only pictured the two above are the only two that I want, especially bring on the bling as I think it will be great (depending on the consistency) to be used as a tip colour with a rouge noir nail colour over the rest of the nail.

RRP is £9.95 from www.lenawhite.co.uk

So had you heard of the film?  Are you looking forward to it?  What do you think of the polishes?

Rapidlash Review

Three months ago I was very kindly given a sample of the Rapidlash lash enhancing serum.  If you are a fan of lash enhancing you might have noticed I have already reviewed Lilash, Rapidlash and Mavala's product already.

The manufacturer claims the gel, which you apply to your  eyelid much like a liquid liner before bed,  encourages your currently long lashes to stay long, while shorter lashes are encouraged to grow.

I used the Rapidlash for two months straight every night applied to the upper lash line like an eyeliner before bed.

Thoughts

I found that my lashes did take a good 7 weeks to start looking longer but it did eventually happen and I was impressed with the growth.  I am not too sure how this works, as Lilash has an ingredient that actually makes the hair grow and Rapidlash is more of a conditioning system to make sure your lashes don't snap off and grow healthily.  However it works I was very impressed and for around half the price of Lilash I would definitely repurchase.  The before AND after pictures above are both with me using 2 coats of L'Oreal Voluminous mascara and you really can see that there was a good difference.

Impressed!

Are you 'avin a laugh love?

24 September 2010

I love a good comedy.  In fact comedy is my favourite type of film, radio, books - I just like a laugh really!

I couldn't do much at lunchtime as it was raining so I thought I would share some of my favourite comedy films and my favourite quotes from them.

Clueless:

Murray
: Your man Christian is a cake boy!
Cher, Dionne: A what?
Murray: He's a disco-dancing, Oscar Wilde reading, Streissand ticket holding friend of Dorothy, know what I'm saying?
Cher: Uh-uh, no way, not even!
Murray: Yes even, he's gay!
Dionne: He does like to shop, Cher. And the boy can dress.

Amber
: Ms. Stoeger, my plastic surgeon doesn't want me doing any activity where balls fly at my nose.
Dionne: Well, there goes your social life.

Deuce Bigelow Male Gigolo

T.J. Hicks
: Deuce, you the best he-bitch in my man stable. If I had two more manginas like you, I'd be a millionaire.

T.J. Hicks
: Claire said Antoine's apartment was messed up, but I had no idea.
Deuce Bigalow: Claire?
T.J. Hicks: The hooker you ass-punched.

T.J. Hicks: Don't make me he-bitch man-slap you!

Soul Plane

Flame: [calmly, after a stewardess has whispered something into his ear] I'll handle this.
Flame: [screams] THE CAPTAIN'S DEAD!

Captain Mack
: Ladies and Gentlemen, we have reached our cruising altitude of 33 thousand feet... 33 THOUSAND FEET? Oh shit, man! We fuckin' higher than Redman at the Source Awards![captain Mack is played by Snoop Doggy Dogg]

                                      Joe Dirt

Old Cajun Man: [In a muffled back water accent] Home is where you make it.
Joe Dirt: What?
Old Cajun Man
: Home is where you make it.

Joe Dirt: You like to see homos naked?
Old Cajun man
: Home is where you make it.

Joe Dirt: Oh.
[Walks away]

Joe Dirt: Guy likes to see homos naked, that doesn't help me.

Harold and Kumar Get The Munchies

Harold: Oh, nice. 16 Candles is on, man.
Kumar: And the award for the least heterosexual statement ever made in this apartment goes to... Harold Lee! Come on down, man! Take a bow!
Harold: Shut up, man. It's a classic.

Freakshow: Go on inside, boys, and make yourselves at home. You can rest up, get something to drink, fuck my wife, whatever you want. Just don't do anything the good lord would'nt do.
Kumar: [walking away with Harold] Dude am I going deaf or did he just say we could fuck his wife?

Bubble Boy

Jimmy: I'm Jimmy.
Chloe: I'm Chloe.
Jimmy: Chloe! The whore next door!
Chloe: What? Where did you hear that?
Jimmy: My Mom, she teaches me everything.
Chloe: Well, really, she got it wrong. I'm actually more of a bitch than a whore.
Jimmy: A bitch. Oh yeah, a bitch. Absolutely a bitch.

Mean Girls

Karen: If you're from Africa, why are you white?
Gretchen: Oh my God, Karen, you can't just ask people why they're white.

Coach Carr: Don't have sex, because you will get pregnant and die! Don't have sex in the missionary position, don't have sex standing up, just don't do it, OK, promise? OK, now everybody take some rubbers.

Jason: Is your muffin buttered?
Cady: What?
Jason: Would you like us to assign someone to butter your muffin?
Cady: My what?
Regina: Is he bothering you? Jason, why are you such a skeeze?
Jason: I'm just being friendly.

Obviously this isn't them all!

So what I want to know is - what's your favourite comedy film?  Any specific things you like about it, I want to make another amazon order!

NOTD Orly Out of This World

23 September 2010

Call me a naughty blogger but before Charlie mentioned Orly Cosmix FX as a topic for a guest post I had never heard of them!  But Wow they are gorgeous.

I have to be honest and say this one, Out Of This World, is the only one that I think is truly 'me' and probably the only one out of the set that I would wear again and again.

Out Of This World

A very rock chick colour with a blackish purple base with shimmery flecks of pinkish purple and green gold.  It does take at least three coats to get the finish above but then it does last a long time without chipping, probably because of all of the glittery flecks.

I had no issues with drying time or chipping and I think this is going to be my go-to polish for Autumn and Winter nights out.  Good on you Orly, this is my favourite collection you have ever done!

Orly Cosmic FX Collection Review

22 September 2010

Today's blog post is a guest review by the lovely Charlie from www.ladyofthelane.com

I was really chuffed when Sarah asked me if I’d like to do a guest post on her blog.  Today's post is a review of two nail polishes I REALLY wanted to review. Namely Orly It’s Not Rocket Science and Halley’s Comet from the long awaited Cosmic FX Collection.

Halley’s Comet is a beautiful turquoise, blue in some lights, green in others and in other lights there’s a flash of gold in there too. It’s really beautiful.  And my photo’s have failed to capture the vibrancy sadly.

Next we have It’s Not Rocket Science which is a beautiful shimmery olive green. Shimmery isn’t the right name for any of the polishes in this collection but I don’t know how else to describe them! This one is the polish in the collection that has the least duochrome I think but it’s still really special.

So there we have it. You can see three more of the Cosmic FX collection swatched on my blog if you want to see more. Space Cadet    Galaxy Girl    Lunar Eclipse

I adore this collection, I knew when I first heard about it that I wanted all of them (I’m now one short of the full set!) and I have to be honest and say they haven’t disappointed at all. The wear on them is excellent and I’ve had nothing but compliments.  Strongly recommended.

Thanks so much Sarah for letting me review these for you!

Orly polishes are £9.50 and more info can be found at www.orlybeauty.co.uk

Finally something to look forward to!

21 September 2010

I have been feeling so bored with life lately, just everything is so bore-ity bore bore boring.

I was reading Derren Brown's blog (testament to my theory that I am bored - he's a right weirdo)!  He quotes a survey that says that British people spend two whole years of their life being bored, the most boring things on people's list were things such as: standing in queues, buying and deciding what food to eat each day, people's social and personal relationships, jobs etc. etc.  -basically everything is boring!   The main reason everyone gave for being bored was that there were many things that they wanted to do (theme parks, holidays, trips, events) but they couldn't afford it (and they say money can't buy you happiness).

I thought 'sod it' this morning and  booked tickets to see Russell Brand next week at Hackney Empire (say hi if you will be there too, we are in Dress Circle Row E).  Since a night out is an extremely rare occurrence for Matt and I,  I figured we deserved it. Woo I am super di duper excited!  I hadn't planned on it due to the price but I can't take any more boredom!

Russell Brand is my favourite comedian.  My favourite time of my life was when Black Books was on the TV and Russell, Matt Morgan, G and Noely Noely were doing their weekend radio show on BBC2, at least I had some laughs guaranteed in my life.  Years ago (before I was born) there were many hysterical British comedies on TV and Radio to choose from or at least some decent drama but these days you either have the choice of irritating chavs on talent competitions, irritating chavs on reality series or sport that we never seem to be any good at....riveting.

I am sure there are plenty of people who detest old Russ but my sense of humour isn't exactly controlled by me, it is what it is, I can listen to his radio show podcasts from 2006-2008 having listened to them hundreds of times before and still cry with laughter (I do get a few odd looks at the gym but it's worth it).

Personal favourite radio show quotes/items:
Setting - Russell asking Noel Gallagher if he could use Oasis' tune when he walks on at the beginning of the VMA's Russell: Can I walk on to Rock 'n' Roll Star by your band Oasis? Noel: Yes, of course. Which means there'll be a bloke on stage they don't recognise coming out to a tune they've never heard.

September 27th 2008 - Russell rang both Katy Perry and Sarah Silverman and tried to chat them both up, Silverman wasn't that interested but even at that time while Katy was with previous BF Travis from Gym Class Heroes she says she finds him sexy and has him on speed dial. (cough cough I met her when she threw a bottle at me a year later honest)!

Pin Pin!

In case you are also a fan of Rusty I thought I would share some of the links to useful things about him as if you are a recent fan you might not know Twitter @rustyrockets

Awww, they are too cute together not that I am jealous (lucky cow)!

Lovea Bio Argan Oil Cell Renewal Body Scrub Review

19 September 2010

In my blogging parcel from www.mypure.co.uk this month contained this lovely scrub.  I used a body scrub twice a week so this was very handy as I usually get through one tube/tub a fortnight.

Consistency
Lovea bio body scrub with Argan Oil is a sugar and oil scrub so the base is an oil and the scrubby particles come from sugar crystals.

Packaging
The packaging is ok right up until you get to the last 1/4 of the product when it becomes quite hard to get the product out of the hole and you end up cutting the end of the tube off just to scrape out the rest of the product.  This could be greatly improved by having the scrub in a tub.

Scent
This does smell of argan oil vaguely but it also has a sweet and citrus scent from the sugar and orange peel.  I really like the scent and found it quite comforting without being overpowering.

Price
£7.49 which seems quite reasonable for a paraben free, certified organic product.

Overall

I found this scrub a pleasure to use despite the annoying packaging and found this great at getting rid of dry skin especially on the legs.  It is quite gentle for a sugar scrub and not at all scratchy.  They suggest you
apply 1-2 times a week on damp skin, using small circular movements with emphasis on the rougher areas which works well for me.  If this came in a tub I would definitely repurchse it.
Purchase here at Mypure argain oil cell renewal body scrub for £7.49

Happy Shopper

Perhaps I should start calling these 'Sarah's Sunday Moan' because that's what it inevitably ends up as!

It's been a sucky month with the weather making me feel constantly cold and tired and as usual no sign of a holiday in sight so I indulged in some comfort shopping. New makeup makes me a happy shopper.

Mini Rouge Bunny Rouge Haul

I wanted to try something different from the gorgeous Rouge Bunny Rouge range and I wasn't dissapointed.  I went to my fave online makeup shop www.zuneta.com and ordered two of the gleaming temptations lipglosses and I am really pleased with both.

Smother me with kisses: creamy semi sheer fuscia with gold shimmer
One long sip: creamy pale warm brown with white pearlised shimmer

All rouge bunny rouge glosses are anti oxidant and anti ageing with the addition of Vitamin E. Depending on the formula; these temptations hydrate, nourish and regenerate with a cocktail of botanical goodies such as Sesame, Neem and Boswellia Oils; Lotus Flower Extract, Gingko Biloba, Green Tea.  I really love that these glosses contain such natural ingredients and it also means that after a day of wearing this and reapplying your lips aren't chapped or dry, they actually look better and more moisturised.

Korres Eyeshadows

I always get excited when I get new Korres goodies as I rarely dislike anything from the brand (I don't particularly like the Materia Herba Cleanser as it's too watery).

These four eyeshadows are withing my usual everyday neutral boundaries but the special thing is in the formulation, they contain sunflower oil for its high concentration in lecithin and vitamins and due to its ability to absorb moisture, it is an ideal ingredient for iridescent eye shadow since it helps make-up remain intact on the upper eyelids and Evening Primrose oil which offers hydration and restores optimum moisture levels even in the most sensitive areas such as around the eyes.

I have to say I love the shades apart from Brun as it just doesn't seem to apply as well as the other three so I would personally avoid that shade.  It kind  of looks a bit clumpy? The other three are gorgeous, smooth, shimmering and apply with ease.  I always use a shadow primer but they did last all day.

I love that the eyeshadow packaging is small and flat so you can easily stack them in your storage and they don't take up much room in makeup bags or handbags.  Also they handily have a coloured sticker on the bottom so you can see the general colour.

Does anyone have any Korres or Rouge Bunny Rouge recommendations for me?
