Sleek Makeup Berry Collection Review
25 November 2011
Today I have a special treat for you, the lovely Lauren from http://lovelaughlauren.blogspot.com/ has agreed to review and swatch the new Sleek Makeup Berry collection for me, very kind of her because, as you may know, I have been moving and downsizing this week to stay with my mum for a couple of months so my house is a tip, my beauty products are boxed up ready for moving and let's be honest you do have to be in the mood and have time to make a decent blog post, and I haven't had time or the inclination. Step in Lauren! Also her pics are better than mine so enjoy it while you can! I have also asked Lauren to review another item in the coming weeks as I am sure you will agree, she does a good thorough review. Show her some love - it's Lauren >>>>
I've been struggling with inspiration for blog posts recently, so when Sarah offered my the chance to try the new Berry Collection from Sleek I jumped at the chance!
The collection is a limited edition, three-piece gift set costing £10 It contains a lipstick, blush and kohl pencil.
The Blush in 'Fenbury' is warm, wintry matte red. It was extremely pigmented (much like most of the other Sleek blushes I've tried) and I found I had to use a much fluffier, less dense blush to make it look more natural. It was a lot easier to blend than I expected when I first put it on. Once blended in it gave a really pretty flush on the cheeks. In my opinion, this would work well for both paler and more tanned skin tones, and I can see myself getting a lot of use out of it. It compares well to Topshop's cream blush in 'Nutmeg', just a little darker.
The lipstick in 'Cranberry' is easily my favourite piece in the collection. It is a matte berry colour with pinky undertones. In the bullet it looks much more red than the colour that actually transfers onto the lips, but I adore it as I have nothing similar in my collection. The texture is very creamy considering it is a matte colour, and it feels very comfortable on the lips. It lasted excellently, even through eating, and left a stain on the lips once it had worn off. Overall, a huge thumbs up from me! I can see me getting a lot of use out of this lippie.
The last item is the kohl pencil. Admittedly, I didn't give this much of a chance because when I put it on it just didn't suit me AT ALL! Although it is a very pretty colour, it just didn't suit my skin tone and made me look like I had some form of eye infection- not a good look. However, the pencil is soft and pigmented and very easy to blend.
Overall this a very exciting collection. The packaging is lovely and festive and I'd be more than happy to open this on Christmas morning!
Thanks again Sarah for being so generous!

Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Foundation Review
I first reviewed Bourjois' Healthy Mix foundation last March and here is the review http://www.iheartcosmetics.co.uk/2010/03/bourjois-healthy-mix-foundation-review.html this is their new version which is a serum gel foundation. As I am a Bourjois lover I was extremely excited to be given this to try out.
The foundation is hypo-allergenic and allergy tested - although these claims from any brand make me giggle as hypo-allergenic just means it is LESS likely to cause an allergic reaction not that nobody is ever going to have one. Plus just the fact that something has been allergy tested doesn't even mean it passed the allergy test, and what allergy? Anyway that' for another time, this didn't give me any allergic reactions at all and my skin is sensitive.
Claims
This foundations claims "Give your skin a radiance boost, made from a vitamin-rich fruit therapy formula for an even complexion and instant anti-fatigue result. It's fresh and instant blending gel texture blends and glides onto the skin for an even, natural finish with no mask effect."
Colour Match
I am shade #52 with no fake tan on, damn I used to be shade 51 that is so pale! This is a good match for me and while last year my skin was super dry, this year it is probably more normal to dry and it goes on and blends in well, slightly correcting my natural pinky redness and making my skin the same colour as on my neck and chest.
Scent
The scent is really fresh and fruity but that only lasts about a minute or so, it goes very quickly, as I thought with the last foundation I tried, it would be kind of strange to have a fruity face all day!
Texture
I use two pumps when I am using my stippling brush. The foundation is thinner in consistency than the other version and I prefer it, it really does have more of a serum feel and is smooth and silky to rub into my skin. I have had a much better experience using a stippling brush or my fingers rather than a regular style foundation brush just like the older version, it just seems to go on a bit strange and stripy with a regular foundation paint style brush. The healthy mix serum texture is quite thin, silky and soft, it blends quickly and gives a light to medium coverage. Once it is dry you can apply another layer with ease, it doesn't look clumpy. I don't think this would be good if you had dark red patches, spots or acne as it isn't pigmented enough to cover them.
Lasting Power
With powdering it lasts around 9 hours which is fine for me, I can never be bothered to do a lunchtime face touchup so it's good it lasted that long I think. When it starts to wear off it's on the tzone first.
Packaging
It comes with a pump which is good for hygiene and the bottle looks much more classy and expensive than the cheap looking plastic bottle used last time. Verdict - 9 out of 10 - the only improvement I could think of was a tiny bit more coverage so I don't need 2 coats on my nose and undereye area (even with concealer) but that's it. It's claims that it lasts 16 hours are slightly overstated in my opinion. The colour selection suits me, but not everyone has white or dark beige skin. Overall this is very impressive especially if you take into account the price and packaging which is easy to use, sanitary and pretty. This is a great everyday foundation for normal to dry and combination skin, too oily a skin and I'm not sure... however I found this review and the writer thinks its great on oily skin and wasn't sure about dry skin! So hey maybe everyone can use it http://www.beautyholicsanonymous.com/2011/06/bourjois-healthy-mix-serum-gel-foundation/
Crystal Clear Microdermabrasion Review
24 November 2011
I first heard about Crystal Clear Microdermabrasion when I was at the salon and I had it done on the back of my arms, a course of three ridded me of my keratonis pilaris for about 9 months which I was amazed by, I probably need 1 go every six months to keep it permanently at bay but that is 100% worth it.
I then read that Maria from TOWIE has the microdermabrasion facial quite often so I thought well, I have be so insanely stressed recently and my skin has been looking tired, grey and horrible so why not have it done on my face?!
Crystal Clear Microdermabrasion literally takes years off you by gently exfoliating the outer layers of skin which treats a vast array of skin concerns, on both the face and body, using a safe and controlled method of skin resurfacing. The treatment provides immediate visible results for ageing skin, lines & wrinkles, open pores, blackheads, pigmentation, blemish scars, acne scars, stretch marks and much, much more.
You'll see the difference after half of the treatment as they well my salon did anyway, do half of your face then show you the miror (or in my case let you take a pic haha) and then they do the other side.
After
Even though I have only had one treatment, I can see and feel the difference and my skin looks so much brighter and feels smoother. If you have more problematic skin concerns a course may be recommended. Also if you have regular treatments, the skin increases its collagen and elastin formation, to give you a naturally firmer and more rejuvenated look.
So what happens in a treatment? Well your skin is cleansed and then exfoliated, then they get the machine to work. The handset is placed onto the skin and a microscopic flow of crystals is directed onto the surface of the skin, the speed of the crystals together with their abrasive nature, gently removes the epidermal cells layer by layer. Used crystals and dead skin cells are simultaneously drawn away from the skin through the vacuum action which also helps blood flow in the skin and circulation.
The action allows for the controlled exfoliation of the stratum corneum and allows smoother and fresher skin to emerge and for surface lumps bumps and irregularities to be smoothed out. The abrasive action and vacuum action combined help stimulate the blood supply to the skins surface which enhances the provision of nutrients necessary for the stimulation of fibroblasts for collagen regeneration which helps the skin look more plumped, lifted and toned. Once that's done Jamie mixed up a lovely cooling and soothing mask which was applied quite thickly, my eyes were covered and then she gave me a lovely neck and hand massage while the mask set. My skin was a little red before the mask but once it was removed my skin looked as it does in the 'after' pic above.
Now I'm not saying this is like having a facelift or something but there is a general overall and quite noticeable look to your face that makes it looks better, younger and slightly lifted once you have finished. I am very happy.
This facial was amazing and I will definitely have more of these in the future as the effects are so noticeable and my skin looks great...if I do say so myself!
My treatment was performed by Jamie at Indulgence Bexleyheath and the price is £46.50 http://www.indulgencebeauty.com/treatments/crystal-clear/

Innocent Smoothies - The Big Knit 2011
23 November 2011
How cute are these little hats?!
This year Innocent are running a campaign to raise money for Age UK. All you have to do to donate 10p to the charity is to buy a smoothie with the little hat, take a photo of the hat somewhere funny and upload the photo to Innocent's facebook page, then Innocent will donate the 10p per picture to the charity. For every bottle sold 25p is automatically donated anyway.
How can I get involved?
1 - buy an innocent smoothie with a hat on it.
2 - get a camera (old school or nu skool will do).
3 - hold the hat between your camera and your subject then take the snap. Do not put the hat on to your subject, or we won't be able to accept it into the competition

(note, you can submit pictures of your animals, as long as they fit this rule).
4 - keep it real, these can look a little messy, and you can leave your fingers in the picture.
5 - go to our big knit tab on facebook and upload your masterpiece.

Remember, if the picture does not fit these rules, we will remove it from the competition. Happy snapping and tagging.
Now they very kindly sent a box of these smoothies to me here in the office but despite me handing out the hats and reminding people to take a funny pic over the weekend what I failed to realise was that the picture had to be taken in a specific way, so everyone took pics of the hats actually ON the items. Oops. I have to say I have no idea why that's one of the rules it's very hard to do!
This is my WRONG picture
Oh well at least I tried, even if you are confused by the hat tagging the hats would be great for keeping your boiled egg warm!

Bourjois Smile Enhancing Gloss
21 November 2011
How gorgeous are these glosses? They combine my two favourite things in beauty, teeth whitening and lipgloss! What could be better?
On one end of the lipgloss is a lovely non sticky gloss which comes in lots of shades from sheer and shimmery to intensely pigmented reds, and on the other is a teeth whitening gel that you put directly on to your teeth to brighten them up and it tastes a bit minty and a bit fruity and also makes breath a bit fresher.
The whitening gel is more to enhance the appearance of your teeth so it doesn't contain any bleach or anything scary, it is blue toned as well to give the appearance of white teeth and tone down any yellow. The difference is definitely noticeable.
The glosses are only £8.99 full price for Boots, Superdrug etc. and I think you will definitely find a shade you'll like.
This is my favourite

Eyebrow Tint and Shape - How To Do It Yourself
20 November 2011
Just think of the pain that I went through growing my eyebrows for this tutorial!
To tint and shape your eyebrows at home you will need a few things which I will list below. I am hoping this might help people who are scared of salons, can't afford to get them done or people who just want the HD eyebrow type look at home.
Tinting
Vaseline
Cotton buds
Damp cotton rounds/pads
Tint
(I used a kit from Ellisons but you can use Eyelure Dylash if you don't have access to a wholesaler or if you do I recommend buying Refectocil)
Developer
Dappen dish or shot glass
Eyebrow brush
Old mascara brush or angled eyeliner brush to apply tint.
Shaping
Tweezers
Damp cotton rounds/pads
Aloe vera or rose water
Tinting
You tint your eyebrows before you shape them, or so I was taught anyway. This helps you define the shape of the brows using the tint which makes it easier when you shape them.
First use oil free makeup remover all over the brow area or alternatively do this just after having a shower. Then use your eyebrow brush to brush them into shape.
You will need to apply Vaseline around the outside of the brows under, over around the edge and in the middle between the brows, this is a barrier so the tint doesn't go on the skin.
Mix up your tint according to the instructions on the tube/packet. I used 2cms of brown tint, 1 cm of black tint and 5 drops of developer and mixed it all up in my dappen dish with a stiff eyeliner brush until it was fully mixed. You then apply the tint starting at the end of the eyebrow and working inwards painting it on, this is to get into the roots, then from the inner part work backwards painting along and smoothing down. You can either do one eyebrow at a time or both together, if you are blond I would do one at a time so you don't end up too dark. I paint mine on, set the timer for 1 minute before I wiped it off. It looks like this whilst it's on.
If you are measuring them out yourself begin by using pencil - try something bright or white so it's easy to see.
Using this diagram but use your brush where the pink line is used, and then make a mark at A, B and C with you pencil so you know where the brow should start, finish and where the arch should be. Your arch should always be two thirds of the way from your inner eyebrow. You can then trace your shape in with your white eyeliner pencil and anything outside of that line needs to be plucked. Try not to go too mad the first time!
My favourite tweezers for beginners are: the tweezerman slanted tweezers as they are very sharp and easy to use. These will last you for years and years so are a good investment and come in around £15-20 depending on the design.
Pluck underneath the eyebrows by holding the skin taut grabbing a hair between the tweezers point bits, squeeze then pull in the direction of hair growth - not against it - this is not waxing! Pull deftly and keep a good hold to ensure the root comes out too.
Once you have plucked then wipe the eyebrows over with a damp cotton pad then apply a thin layer or aloe vera gel or rosewater to soothe and calm any redness.
And you're done!
Any questions please ask, or if you would like to see any other at-home tutorials then let me know. Hope you had a lovely Sunday

For example Anastasia, Shavata and Ardell all do different ones which look similar. If you are measuring them out yourself begin by using pencil - try something bright or white so it's easy to see.

Vita Liberata Intense Silken Mousse Fake Tan Review
I am a big fan of fake tan fan but recently I haven't been trying so many as you have probably gathered I am qualified in spray tanning so have either been doing my own spray tan with either Fake Bake darker or organics, or begging Matt to help.
Matt's been away and I needed to tan as I am a bit unwell and so pale I look like the crypt keeper, I actually looked in the mirror and wanted to cry! I needed tan! Vita Liberata was the only one in Boots that I hadn't tried and I knew the girls from Made in Chelsea wear it all the time so I figured it would be a good new brand to try.
How exactly does fake tan work?
Fake tan is based either on DHA (dihydroxyacetone) or a combination of DHA and erythrulose (such as fake bake). Both chemicals react with the amino acids in your skin to create a reaction which causes your skin to turn brown. The general theory is that the higher the % of DHA, the darker the tan will be - however using a very dark % DHA on a very pale person will not result in a dark tan, it is what gives the tango orange look. So just because you read that I, your best mate or your favourite celebrity loves a certain tan, it still could turn you orange if the DHA is too dark for your particular skintone.
I am not 100% what DHA percentage this uses.
Is it easy to use?
I do like the product and it's ease of use. I used it with a mitt and applied in long sweeping strokes to cover the area such as arms and legs, and then used circular motions to buff it in to prevent any steaks (bar the one on my arm, the other arm is fine though). As long as you moisturise your hands and feet beforehand this has quite a foolproof application, I say to moisturise your whole hands and feet as mousse tan does have a tendency to grab at those areas more.
There's a video on their website of how to apply which is pretty helpful, the link is here http://www.vitaliberata.co.uk/

What are the ingredients? Does it smell funky?
I also like that the product is alcohol and paraben free. All of Vita Liberata's tanning products are formulated with organic extracts and rich moisturisers to ensure a natural fade and prolonged skin conditioning. I didn't smell funky on the day but the next morning it did smell a bit - just the usual fake tan smell.
Does it take forever to dry? Do you have to stand around like a sticky orange?
As with most mousse tans this dries almost instantly which is fab.
So is it pricey then?
I thought it was quite reasonable at £22.50 for a bottle of the mousse (every time I have typed mousse I really want to type mouse). However this is pricey really when I think how much a bottle of my spray tan costs and how little I use for each tan. I would give it an 8.9 out of ten, slight marks off due to the smell the next morning.
Have you tried Vita Liberata? What did you think?
Infra-red Dome Review - My Detox Diet
18 November 2011
Last week I popped along to the Infra-red Dome at Alara health shop in Marchmont Street London thanks to My Detox Diet. I was interested in giving it a go as you lie back and relax on a comfortable wooden bed whilst the technology of the unique black carbon dome gradually heats up the body by emitting vibrations of far-infrared rays that are in line with the infra-red naturally produced within the body. The head remains uncovered during this process whilst the dome cocoons the rest of the body for a purifying, regenerating and slimming treatment.
The Infra-red domes ensures a loss of up to 600 kilocalories for every half hour session (even more in some cases). Moreover, the heat penetrates up till 40 mm under the skin, which is purifying, in depth cleansing, reduce cellulite and helps the anti aging effects. I don't know about you but that all sounded fabulous, 600 cals in half an hour? Bring on the giant dairy milk bar!
I found the dome experience rather spa-like. You simply drink half a glass of water, slip out of your clothes and into the smexy paper pants and then get inside the dome (pictured) which looks a bit like a scanner. You have a towel draped over the top so the heat doesn't escape and first of all you lay on your tummy face down. You have 15 minutes facing down then you will be told to flip over and lay on your back and the heat intensifies for the last 15 minutes. I only found myself profusely sweating for say the last 10 minutes of the treatment. Your head remains uncovered which I really like as I feel quite claustrophobic when mine is covered up.
Things to note are that you must refrain from alcohol and food prior to the dome session and not shower for at least two hours afterwards but apart from that there are no specific rules on what to do, I personally would recommend taking a comfy pair of yoga bottoms and a thin vest and cardie to wear afterwards just as I felt a bit hot to be putting on a suit but you should be fine to do so, if you needed to go on your lunch hour.
They do say that you will sweat a lot and while I did sweat I certainly didn't sweat a massive amount, so perhaps I could go hotter next time as she did ask me how I was with saunas to gauge my heat response but I don't have them so it was probably not on the hottest setting as I am sure she didn't want me to faint (I didn't want to either)! The session initiates a deep cleansing and toxins are eliminated from the body as it burns energy and starts to breakdown fats including cholesterol and accumulated toxins. This deeper level perspiration is equivalent to the same effect that might be achieved from a 20 Km run but without the negative side effects on the body.
I did not feel uncomfortable and enjoyed the experience. It was also nice to lie down in the middle of a hard day. Overall I really liked it and the best bit is I was toasty and warm all day since, whereas normally I am absolutely freezing cold and my joins sometimes hurt as they are so cold. I have decided to book myself a few more sessions for January as I can easily fit them around my working day and pop along at lunch time or before work as they are in a really convenient place.
If you like saunas and steams, want to tone your skin, reduce cellulite or detox then this is a great way to do it. I found the whole experience really relaxing and I probably could have fallen asleep if left in there any longer, I was snug as a bug in a rug. I couldn't say whether I lost weight as they didn't weigh me beforehand as they normally would (according to their website) which I am presuming was because they thought I wasn't trying to lose weight as I am not overweight but maybe they just forgot, not too sure.
If you want to detox perhaps in the new year or if you have recently overindulged or want to fit in a specific dress for Christmas this is a great plan, they also offer food plans with juice diets or just healthy and nutritious plans that include the dome as well so you do both to get the maximum weight loss and detox.

17 November 2011
After a confusing tweet from the lovely Olga asking why the questionnaire I sent her didn't work, I finally deduced that someone else had sent her an email, pretending to be from me. I asked if she would mind sending me the email and here it is. Please note. THIS EMAIL IS NOT FROM ME!
Please do let me know if you have received this and please reply to them and tell them you know they are a fake! Do NOT try and download anything form their link.
I believe the link they have given is actually a download of some sort of virus as my computer quarantined and removed it as soon as I downloaded it so please please don't download it.

Winter makeup can be glammed up easily by keeping your face quite nude with contouring, lashings of mascara and a lovely berry lip like the A/W 2011 Gucci shows.

My Little Payday Haul
11 November 2011
Well alright it's not so little, but it's PAYDAY and I am depressed so
I need to shop - it's a clear medical fact.
These shoes are from Nine West and were half price!
Would have been a crime not to really.
YESS I bought the dress. I took your advice and to be honest it was my favourite too. Although I might ask for the black one for Christmas as it's a classic and would look nice with red shoes.
Imagine Minx nail foils but covering in bling...and you get - Dashing Diva Designfx! I love these and bought them mainly because they match my new shoes ...and erm the clients will like them - yes that's why tralala!
I picked up these two dresses in Dorothy Perkins, the red wrap dress is £25 and the other is £30 - bargaino! Perfect for the office - knee high boots for the wrap dress and black stiletto's for the other dress. Plus a big cardie because it is freezing in the office! Absolutely bum freezingly cold.
I don't haul hardly ever these days so this was soooo much fun. Have you bought anything new lately?
