Hygienist Appointment with Lana
at Neem Tree Fleet Street
I wanted to review my Hygienist Appointment with Lana The Cosmetic Hygienist at Neem Tree Fleet Street because I think there is a stigma with dentists.
People tend to be embarrassed if they have bad teeth, bad breath etc. But then don’t seem to go to the dentist or hygienist enough to fix any underlying issues. I also wanted to stress that just like you give your car an MOT each year, you need one too! To live longer and healthier, make sure you book your Dr checkups, make sure your mental health is good and you look after your stress levels and also look after your teeth.
I want to mention that I booked this treatment myself, the same day I got my botox done at Neem Tree Fleet Street with Dr Pam Benito. You can read the review here.
However, they (extremely kindly) offered this on the day as complimentary too. I had been fully prepared to pay and will happily pay next time. Just for full disclosure!
Who Does the Hygiene Appointments
Lana Fattah is the cosmetic hygienist at Neem Tree Fleet Street and alongside dealing with the likes of me, she also has many celebrity clients as well. Lana provides individually tailored hygiene treatments for her patients by establishing their specific needs whether it’s aesthetic or health-related.
She is keen to teach patients that “hygiene” sessions are not only a beauty treatment but primarily a routine medical treatment that is paramount in the prevention of gingivitis and periodontitis. I have to admit, I just thought it was to get rid of plaque and make your teeth whiter as it removed stains. I know better now! She has vast experience in her field and is very confident at treating nervous patients. If you want to follow Lana on Instagram her account is @lanathecosmetichygienist . All of the treatments and pricing can be viewed here.
After meeting Lana and Pam, I am starting to wonder if Neem Tree is like the mecca for hottie hygienists and dentists? As well as being a great hygienist and all-round babe, Lana is so lovely and chatty that our appointment flew by. I was quite sad to leave in the end, we had such a good laugh! If you are scared of dental appointments then Lana will totally put you at ease and make it a nicer experience. But there’s definitely nothing to be scared of as the treatments are not painful.
I Digress, Back to The Hygiene Appointment!
Lana thought it was a great idea to blog about hygiene appointments as she said that a lot of people are embarrassed about their teeth. We thought it would be good to encourage people to brush and floss twice a day and have regular check-ups and hygiene appointments by showing how simple it is. And that you shouldn’t be embarrassed at all. I think a lot of people don’t realise how important it is, and it’s not particularly expensive, you only need it done say , twice a year. Prevention is better than cure so if you want to have a good set of teeth into old age, remember to look after them now. You can find 2 guides on Lana’s Instagram of how to brush and how to floss which might help if you’re not sure.
What Did Lana Do?
I had three things done in my treatment plan which was Ultrasonic Cleaning, localised handscaling and full mouth airflow. It sounds a bit complicated but I will explain them all. Everything was easy, pain free and fairly quick. The airflow treatment is a bit messy so I would recommend taking face wipes and some foundation to reapply after as it can get on your face as the machine is so powerful.
1) ultrasonic cleaning
In dentistry, calculus or tartar is a form of hardened dental plaque. Ultrasonic cleaners create a high vibrational energy which crushes and removes this plaque. Dental plaque is also a yellowish biofilm that builds up on the teeth. Biofilms contain disease-causing bacteria which is associated with cavities and gum disease (both gingivitis and periodontitis). So basically ultrasonic cleaning uses vibrational energy and water to remove tartar and plaque, which can make your teeth yellow or brown in colour and bacteria which can give you gum disease and bad breath.
2) localised hand scaling
A manual instrument is used after the machines to remove any remainder. Root planing involves detailed scaling of the root surface to decrease inflammation of the gum tissue. So they just go over the teeth and gums with hand tools at the end to make sure everything is clear and clean.
3) full mouth air flow
This is the fancy treatment I’d never had before. It’s a bit messy but it cleans your teeth and gets rid of every last bit of plaque and tartar like a magic wand. At Neem Tree they use Prophy Mate Neo. Air polishing is a rapid and effective way, without using harsh tooth whitening products, to clean and brighten teeth. This is done instead of those old school round buffing polishers dentists used to use.
The air flow polishing technique uses a mix of water, compressed air and fine powder particles. This method is far superior to traditional cleaning methods and gets into the very side, back, front and top of all teeth even in the hardest to reach places.
This was perfect for me, as while the front of my teeth generally looked fine, I had totally neglected behind my teeth and had been using Corsodyl mouthwash which apparently stains your teeth. That went straight in the bin! Studies have shown that air polishing is over three times faster at removing stains and plaque than traditional methods. Teeth are cleaned in a much less abrasive manner than scraping and polishing which also causes less damage to the teeth. My teeth were absolutely blinding white after this treatment and I think it is awesome!
My Before and Afters
Unfortunately, the first picture is a bit blurry as it’s hard to get a camera in your mouth. Also, can’t really take my ring light to the dentist. I tried! They were going brown on the back and I was not impressed. I wanted it gone.
As you can see the after has absolutely zero plaque anywhere, just pearly whites! The camera actually doesn’t pick up how white they really are. As the lighting in the clinic is a bit yellow. I will post a picture below of me smiling so you can see just how white they are. Yes, there is a little blood. But my gums healed that same day. It was necessary to get rid of all the bacteria and plaque. It wasn’t painful at all.
Would I Get This Done Again?
Absolutely! I have plans to go back in June for another airflow treatment. I think that’s the only one that Lana said I should get. My mouth feels and looks so much better. I have no more gum sensitivity and all marks and staining have gone.
I thoroughly recommend Lana and Neem Tree Fleet Street. However, if you aren’t near London, I definitely recommend going to the hygienist and making your teeth a priority wherever you are. And if you can get an airflow treatment definitely do so, it’s the best!
