Payday yesterday wooo! I stopped off at Boots on the way to work since sometimes a bit of retail therapy befor 8.30am is needed and Boots is one of the only shops open at that time and near my office!
I picked up the Bourjois mascara 1001 Cils which means 1001 lashes. It looked like a funky tube and since it is supposed to make you look like you have more eyelashes it had to be tried.
The tube is white and has a twisty effect with a rectangular end, this makes opening the tube quite easy which is good and it won’t roll around if you put it on the table which is also a plus. The wand goes in and out like the Rimmel curvy lashes mascara but it isn’t as rigid and I prefer that the Bourjois wand has a slight bend to it.
Normally I find those plastic or rubber (whatever it is) wands that are now popular a right pain in the bum. This wand has plastic ‘bristles’ and the brush is quite narror which is my preferred wand shape as the conical ones make a big mess and the massive wands make things impossible to apply without poking yourself in the eye, you can’t get near the lashline at all. I love my L’Oreal Voluminous brush as it is normal and has normal bristles! But this is the best plastic wand I have used and it really definited and separated the lashes. I was able to get right in and grab the small lashes which are sometimes hard to get so I was very impressed with the wand. When the small lashes are definited at the inner and outer corner it causes the lashes to look more plentiful and it widens the eye as it gives the illusion of more lashes, which is what I always strive for.
The consistency of the mascara is more wet than say a L’Oreal or Lancome but the 1001 Lashes is a perfect consistency for what it is meant to do and works well with the wand. The formulation is more about lengthening, curling and defining rather than thickening but if you apply this with a volumising mascara it is the absolute perfect combination of definition of lashes, length and volume.
Did I like this? Actually yes I was very impressed with how the brush managed to get the teeny tiny lashes right in the inner corner and outer corner of my eyelashes without blobbing the skin around my eye like other mascara wands, as you can see from the pic above. I love how the wand is plastic/rubber but not too stiff like some of the No.7 and Collection 2000 ones are but it is also not overly bendy so it doesn’t wibble all over the place.
I think the tube is a funky but handy shape and it is easy to hold, apply and open and close. I am not sure if I like the white tube but it is a bit different and I certainly don’t dislike it. It doesn’t look tacky or cheap like some of the brightly coloured ones do.
All in all this is a close second to my HG mascara (Voluminous) and I will be using them both in conjunction with each other to maximise the length and define the inner and outer corner lashes. Is it me or is the drop in VAT causing things to have really weird prices? Everything used to be either a full pound or 99p now everthing has a weird amount of pence, which is really annoying if you pay with cash as you get a big handful of change!
