Since the week before Christmas I have had such bad eczema on my body and around my ears, it is specifically around the inside of my elbows and knees and basically anywhere that your body bends. I have no idea why this is but presumably because of the cold weather. So if extremely dry skin or eczema are your problem then keep reading!
I have been using the Simple Derma cream on my face and the Skin MD Natural on my body and they both work excellently. You can use the Skin MD Natural on the face, hands, or body but I just prefer it on my body. It also comes in a version with an SPF15 but I don’t exactly need that since my skin hasn’t seen sun in a very long time!
The people at Skin Md claim that this shielding lotion can heal dry skin and I completely agree, as soon as I started using this lotion on my body I noticed a difference and in three days the eczema on my body was 80% gone. I have been using the lotion once a day before bed since the week before Christmas and now I only have one or two 2p sized patches of eczema whereas before it was all up the insides of both arms and the backs of my legs and I am so thankful as I only have 1 small tube of steriod cream for my eczema because I don’t normally get large patches of it and I could have used up the entire tube in just on one application!
The lotion is really really thin, it appears almost watery and it sinks in super quick. To be honest you would think that this does nothing at all but it is very deceptive. I think that because this is a barrier/shielding lotion rather than a thick moisturiser and this is the explanation from the Skin MD website “it is far more effective as a dry skin treatment than conventional moisturizing lotions or protective creams. If you suffer from dry skin, you know that just using a moisturizing lotion doesn’t solve the problem.” I actually agree with this as sometimes a moisturiser is not enough, I often moisturise my legs, especially my shins and then a few hours later I have lizardy skin again whereas with this lotion I don’t even though it’s so thin but thats because it forms a shield over the skin so irritants cannot get in and moisture cannot get out.
All in all I was extremely surprised by this product and really rate it now! The only problem is that the packaging is a bit ….boring. I don’t know why but it looks a bit like something they would sell in Holland and Barret and considering it’s £14.99 I think they really need to make it look a bit more glamorous!
The Simple Derma Intensive Relief Cream is also another unglamorous product, do they think people with eczema don’t appreciate a bit of bling or something? Simple Derma is a range of products ideal for very dry, sensitive skin and is suitable for those prone to eczema and dermatitis. It’s ingredients include Aquaxyl™ and Canola Oil, this tube I have is easy to apply and non greasy but it is very thick, it takes a minute or two to absorb and this is why I only use it on my face, it surprisingly doesn’t intefere with makeup and foundation can be applied fine over the top. It does act quite fast in clearing up the dry patches on my face and my face has looked so much less dry since I started using this morning and night. I wouldn’t use this all the time as it would be way too much, just while it is so cold.
It says on the tube that you can apply this liberally and I agree, I don’t think you could apply too much as it doesn’t leave me greasy. I also like the fact that this is clinically proven to show results in just 4 days. A company cannot make this claim unless they have done a proper clinical study so I am impressed they did that.
I also like that it is a lot cheaper than the Skin MD but then again you don’t get very much in the tube.
