I just read this article in the slighty chav tastic New Of The World’s magazine:
All of these young girls think that they are fat, ugly and need cosmetic surgery. I was just so saddened to read this story as they are all gorgeous, in my opinion slim and so young. One of them even mentions getting rid of her chubby cheeks with surgery! It took until I was about 20/21 for my chubby cheeks to go but that’s just your ‘baby fat’ going for some people, my whole family have round cheeks and took until their 20’s to grow out of them. These poor girls are so self conscious and are wasting their teen years focussing on these unnecessary things that they don’t even need.
Now I hadn’t particularly planned to ever make a nod to the fact that I personally have had plastic surgery but I wanted to address is now in case anyone thought I was being hypocritical. I personally had breast implants when I was 23. I had lost 3.5 stone between the ages of 19 and 23 and while I had always had 1 breast bigger than the other when I had lost the weight it was extremely noticeable and I was so self conscious that I had basically one flat side of my chest and 1 B-cup breast, in fact it made me miserable to have to pad one side of my bra every single day, and while I would wear a bikini on the beach as I refused to let it bother me, I did hate seeing everyone on the beach topless with their big bouncy and even boobs! I have kept the photo I took of myself the day I had surgery and even now I look at the picture and think bleurgh how vile! I thought about it for a year and saved up the money to pay for them in cash, as I decided it would be weird to pay for my own boobs on a credit card or loan, like someone else owned my baps! At the end of 2008 I had my surgery and followed to the letter every single thing the doctor said to do and not do.
Now I am sure from all of my pictures you cannot tell that I have fake boobs, nobody usually believes me! Up close they look quite big but in general nobody can tell which is exactly what I wanted and I went for a surgeon who was adamant that was the look that he wanted for me as well. Obviously one implant is a lot bigger than the other and also the bigger one had to be uplifted and the nipple made smaller as that was also a lot bigger than the flat boob side, but fantastically, amazingly they are almost the same size now, only a few millimetres different, I don’t have to pad either side and I can wear a normal bra! It takes a few months for them to drop and settle and one day I just looked down and burst out crying because I was just so so happy that I didn’t feel so unhappy about them any more. It’s been over a year and I love them. I know in the future I will have to have them redone but in my opinion the cost was better than years of hating my body.
I think my story is a bit different to these girls so I don’t think that I am being hypocritical but you can disagree, that’s ok 😉 All I will say is, having a boob job or nose job won’t fix you or your mentality. It might give you a boost of confidence or it might not but at the end of the day it will change your body not your mind, so remember that if you are having something done.
I am more than happy to give any advice that I can about pre or post surgery things to do or any tips but I am not going to post it here in case nobody wants to know!
This is a picture which I took 4 weeks after my boobjob was done. Even right after they were done they didn’t look fake. Please ignore that dodgy top I went out and bought any low cut top that I could since I had spent so long covering them up and trying to conceal the fact that they were wonky lol!
So what the hell is my point? Well I just don’t think that at 14 you should be wanting surgery and thinking you are ugly and fat when you are a size 8! I just think we need to encourage young girls to feel good about themselves so they don’t feel they have to live up to ridiculous standards. I don’t know what can be done to help though really, I mean magazines aren’t going to change and I think so much damage has been done already. I overheard two girls on the bus the other day who I assume were around 17-21 looking at an article in a magazine about the planned increased usage of larger models in 2010 and going forward. They were discussing how fat and disgusting these models were and how they wouldn’t want to read the magazines any more if people were so ‘obese and disgusting’. So I don’t know how people are going to change the mentality of size 8 being fat and size 14 being disgustingly obese, it’s so wrong as long as you are healthy and happy then that’s what is important.
Anyone else have any feelings about this?
