Keep Your Cool This Summer

As much as I love Summer it is very difficult to look and smell fresh and stop your makeup melting. The UK is just not designed to cope in the heat!  Here are some things I have been using which have really helped me and I would recommend.

An invigorating cold shower with a tropical scented shower gel is a refreshing pick me up after a long day and out of the 3 Radox Shower Smoothies Matt and I have worked our way through I decided that  Tropical Tranquility was the best. A close second is the Lynx Thai Massage shower gel which is the perfect Summer aqua colour and makes your skin zing! Not just for men either. Radox are currently half price at Boots for £1.24

An oil reducing facial toner is great to use in this weather and the Origins Zero Oil Pore purifying Toner is fantastic at keeping you matte without drying our your skin. It is formulated with skin-clearing Saw Palmetto and Broad Leaf Kelp which helps minimize surface oil without over drying. Salicylic Acid visibly shrinks the look of pores.  I use this in the morning on a cotton pad after cleansing, I focus on the t-zone area but if you have oily skin just use this all over. It leaves your skin matte and shine free and really helps you retain that shine-free look for at least 5 or 6 hours, meaning that overall your foundation looks fresher for longer. The bottle will last you for ages and costs £15 for 150ml

You need a good deodeorant in the heat and I actually really enjoy using the Body Shop Deo Dry in Cool and Zesty which costs £2.50. It is the only roll on I have ever used that doesn’t take a month of Sunday’s to actually dry. I put this on before I go downstairs to make my coffee in the morning and when I bring it back upstairs my underarms are dry. I can’t be doing with aerosol sprays in the Summer as my hayfever and allergies already make my eyes and nose itchy in the morning. This is also a good sweat buster whilst being good for your skin because it contains no aluminium.  It leaves no white marks either.

Thanks to Holly (YMBB) I have been addicted to facial sprays this year and the cooling mist peps up tired skin and can also be used before and after makeup application to avoid that powdery cakey look which is far too obvious for summer.

The Caudalie Beauty Elixir is the nicest smelling facial spray I have used no doubt due to the grape and orange blossom water.  The mist is extremely fine so you don’t need to hairdry your face as some people do with Mac’s Fix Plus and an added bonus is that it’s paraben free and not tested on animals. Your skin looks noticeably more radiant after using.

It is pretty expensive at £31 for 100ml however I have also enjoyed using the La Roche Posay Thermal Spring Water which I picked up in my local (large) Boots for £6.50.  It is unscented and very cooling.

Presumably as I am always moaning about being pale I have been sent a few SPF50’s from different brands to try over the past month or so. The best one by far being the Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream Sun Defense For Face SPF 50. The formula is light and oil free so it is perfect to use after the Origins toner as it adds no oil, however it is very moisturising and protects your skin against the signs of ageing. It has a PA+++ protection grade against UVA and UVB rays and is suitable for all skin types. This is my replacement for my previous favourite Avene as it turned out that was breaking me out (sad times). This is more expensive at £22.00 but I cannot fault it in any way at all as I like everything about it.

Most people switch up their perfume for Summer as your usual perfume can just smell wrong in the heat, as the fragrance reacts with your body heat it can also smell different the hotter you get. I have started using the new Clarins Eau Des Jardins Natural Spray which is the perfect Summer scent. A fruity floral smell that is seriously refreshing due to the orange and grapefruit notes but girly and floral due to the rose.  It reminds me of bbq’s and garden parties, summer dresses and sandals and pimms o’clock! I know that is a weird way to describe a perfume but if it manages to conjure up that feeling in me I thought it must be a well put together scent. I want to try the popular other perfume by Clarins Eau Ressourcante as it is supposed to be rebalancing and refreshing which also sounds lovely. Have you tried any Clarins perfume? I would like to know if it’s nice as I haven’t heard much about it.

Instead of my usual Korres Materia Herba Anti Ageing moisturiser I have been using the regular moisturiser as it is slightly thinner.  In Summer you need to make sure your formulations aren’t as thick as in Winter otherwise your pores can get clogged when you sweat and cause spots and blackheads.  So stick to a light moisturiser and don’t apply as much.

So these are my tips and products I like, do you have any tips for me?
