Dressing for Ladies Day at Ascot with Dove Invisible Dry Deodorant
I love Ladies day at Royal Ascot. I was excited to go this year courtesy of Dove to support their 100 Colours Campaign.
Dove’s 100 Colours Campaign is in conjunction with Dove Invisible Dry Deodorant. The first deodorant on the market that’s proven to leave no white marks on 100 different colours.
NEW Dove Invisible Dry gives women the confidence to wear their favourite colour… or any colour they want. To test this out I figured, let’s not hold back! I randomly sprayed the deodorant over all of my clothes in my wardrobe and, they are correct, no white marks. I was impressed, there’s nothing worse than putting on a great outfit and smearing dusty white deodorant all over it which never seems to come off.
Dove conducted a poll for their Colour Confidence Campaign and the results weren’t surprising. They showed two-thirds of British Women choose an LBD because of its reputation as a timeless classic and because they think dark colours are slimming. They do hide a multitude of sins but almost the same amount of women said that wearing colourful clothes makes them feel happier and more confident. Body confidence is the key reason why women refrain from wearing colours but they miss the extra confidence boost that wearing colours can give them!
Dove is on a mission to get women more colour confident – specifically by embracing the ‘LCD’, or ‘little
colourful dress’. Wearing the right tone and shape is very important so that you get it right when wearing colour so I decided to incorporate all of the great tips that I received from Fashion Stylist Alex Longmore and Confidence Coach Natalie Thomas at a recent event, who are part of the Colour Confidence Team at Dove.
Trying to find an outfit
Trying to find an outfit can be a bit stressful, you see 100 dresses when you aren’t going anywhere and nothing at all when you really need something. I am extremely guilty at this point of usually giving up and going for the old faithful, the LBD. Not this Ladies Day!
Natalie told me what different colours mean and how they affect your moods and I was drawn to her saying that orange “is an energetic colour which is useful when maintaining a positive outlook on life. Orange helps with social communication so bring your orange clipboard if you need enthusiasm when presenting an idea to others.” And that pink “is a soothing colour which evokes calm feelings and is also great for stress relief.
Pink can be used for reassurance and to rebalance emotional distress”. I decided to double my luck and combine the two and go for a coral dress and a coral and pink fascinator hoping this colour combo would inspire me to have a lovely positive and fun day at the races with
no stress and lots of winning!
Tips from Alex
A tip from Alex that surprised me was “Colour can be more empowering to wear than dark tones. We often think of black as a ‘forgiving colour’ and that it ‘hides a multitude of sins’ but this couldn’t be further from the truth. It can make us look drained, can dull our complexion and certainly isn’t feminine or good for our confidence.” I had actually thought that black clothes made me look slimmer, and I hadn’t realised it was making me look drained, eek!
Alex also told me when I met her that good styles for my typically English pear shape body are the skater or a-line dresses as they highlight my waist which I like and hide the area that I hate, the dreaded thighs. I looked for skater style dress and found a lovely one from French Connection and a matching fascinator from Monsoon.
I teamed this with a blazer from Zara, some wedges and my Tory Burch York Tote handbag. I was impressed that I managed to find something flattering! It was colourful and I felt really confident wearing it.
