Empower Hour Challenge with Dove Gentle Exfoliating Body Wash

Today the clocks go back in the UK and we gain that all-important extra hour at a time of the year when our skin is in need of some serious TLC.  With Dove Gentle Exfoliating body wash, Dove has come up with a series of timed tips to help you keep your skin as hydrated as possible to really make the most of that precious extra hour.  They have challenged me to spend an hour trying out their moisturisation tips and to come up with some tips of my own.  There is even the chance for you to come up with some tips for the chance to win a year’s supply of Dove’s Gentle Exfoliating Body Wash (scroll down to the end of the post for details on how to enter).

This new cleanse and lather experience means your beauty routine now starts in the shower and with its gentle cleansers and exfoliating silica particles, Dove Gentle Exfoliating Body Wash is designed to help you smooth away dull, dry skin as the days get shorter and the weather gets colder. With its combination of a milder glycinate surfactant system and NutriumMoisture*, Dove Gentle Exfoliating Body Wash replenishes lipids lost during cleansing to help even out skin tone and strengthen its moisture barrier. It’s also gentle enough for everyday use.  Dove Body wash gives softer, beautifully smooth skin after just one shower.

Dove’s Timed Moisturisation Tips

5 mins: Before getting into the shower take 5 minutes to vigorously sweep a body brush up the arms, legs and back towards the heart. This stimulates lymphatic circulation, which helps you to eliminate toxins effectively and feel energized for the day.

10 mins: For an at-home remedy, try using banana to moisturise your face and leave it looking and feeling softer. Mash up a medium-sized ripe banana into a smooth paste, then gently apply it to your face and neck. Let it set for 10 minutes, then rinse it off with cold water.

5 mins: Bring a sense of hotel luxury into your bathroom. Use mood lighting with the dimmer switch and tea lights. Low lighting gives the brain a message that it’s time to relax.

10 mins: Exfoliation gently removes dry skin cells from the surface, allowing moisturisers to function effectively. Give skin the superior care it deserves with Dove Gentle Exfoliating Body Wash.

10 mins: Different massage movements in the shower can help various parts of your body; for example long strokes up the legs help to stimulate circulation, and spiralling movements around your neck and shoulders help to loosen any knots.

10 mins: Put on moisturiser when your skin is still damp. That way, the moisturiser helps retain the moisture still on your skin. Let it soak in for a few minutes, and then towel off the excess.

10 mins: As the weather gets colder, we have the urge to switch on the heating but hot air can be damaging to our skin. Use a humidifier for short periods of time in a well-ventilated room and keep the door closed so that moist air doesn’t escape… Or place a bowl of wet rice on top of your radiator to put some moisture back into the room and your skin.

My Empower Hour Challenge

Having tried all of Dove’s tips during my empower hour challenge my favourite has got to be using the humidifier by my bed.  I have really found that it makes a difference to the moisture levels in my skin but I have also found that it has helped me sleep better and breathe easier so I would definitely recommend picking one of these up if you haven’t got one already and getting one for your children’s rooms as well if they have the typical childhood skin problems of eczema or psoriasis.

My Moisturisation Tips

Dove challenged me to come up with some tips for you as well; my skin has always been extremely dry so I have spent years trying to find things to do that help.  Here are 4 things that I do a lot in Autumn and Winter to keep moisturised that really work.

Really dry scaly skin? When skin is damp, apply body oil and then a layer of moisturiser over the top, the body lotion will lock in the oil, keeping your skin hydrated for even longer;

Dry cracked heels? Slather them in coconut oil, and then add a layer of your thickest body lotion over the top.  Put your feet in small plastic bags such as sandwich or freezer bags or wrap them in cling film.  Then wrap a warm towel around your feet.  Sit and relax for 30-60 minutes then remove the plastic/cling film and rub in any excess oil and cream for super smooth feet

Dry lips? Use the back of your hand to mix some lip balm and granulated sugar then apply to the lips and rub in with your finger.  Once the dry skin has been exfoliated away you can wipe clean with a tissue.  Then apply a nice thick layer of lip balm for smooth kissable lips, no need for expensive lip exfoliators;

Dry Nails and Cuticles? Get into the habit of applying your lip balm to your cuticles every time you apply it to your lips, cuticle balm and lip balm are generally made of the same ingredients and getting into the habit of doing them both at the same time will make it feel less of a chore.
