Today’s review is of two kits from the brand Glo Minerals. This is a new brand to me so I did some research into the company. Glo Minerals is, as you have probably guessed, a mineral makeup company. Along with mineral face makeup they also sell a whole range of other skincare and makeup products.
Face Powders
For their face powders they use pharmaceutical grade minerals which contain a powerful antioxidant blend of vitamins. Vitamins A,C,E and Green Tea Extract. On your skin this blend provides nutrients that are vital for maintaining the health of your skin. They do this while protecting from further damage. They use a triple milled process ensuring that every application provides even coverage that lasts all day or night. The products provide sun protection using Titanium and Zinc oxide. They are paraben, dye and perfume free. Not only good for sensitive skin but also suitable for use post-procedure i.e. after you’ve had Botox/fillers, without causing any harm or irritation.
Flawless Skin Kit £73.45
The first kit I tried was the Glo Minerals Flawless Skin which includes the Face Primer, Pressed Base and Finishing powder for £73.45. The three-step kit is designed to help you get a beautiful, glowing skin.
Face Primer
The Glo Minerals face primer works well both under the mineral foundation and other liquid foundations I
tested it out with. It’s a clear primer that glides on easily and doesn’t feel heavy or sticky, a little goes a long way and you only need a pea sized amount to cover the whole face. This primer does contain silicone (dimethicone)
however so if you try and avoid silicone or have very dry skin this would be one to avoid. I do have dry skin so was wary of this but I think because you don’t need to use very much it has been fine on my skin.
Pressed Base
I really enjoyed using this base. Which is saying something as I don’t normally like mineral makeup and I
don’t normally like powder foundation! I tested out the shade Golden Light, there are lots of different colours available in three different colour families. You would hopefully be able to find a match easily, especially these days as you can google for images of colour swatches.
This product gives a really natural finish but is pigmented enough to cover up fine thread veins and redness around the nose, it’s a velvet satin finish so you still have the depth of your skin tone showing through and it’s not overly matte to give you that lifeless dusty look that most loose mineral powder foundations seem to give. It will give you that ‘your skin but better’ look that I would assume most people would want but it has extra longevity as it is a powder and really lasts all day with or without the finishing powder.
hile packaging isn’t the most important thing in the world I was impressed with the compact as it’s very sturdy and has a decent sized mirror, the application puff is also of good quality and the simple black and white design looks classy enough for you to be able to get your compact out without looking silly.
Finishing Powder
This is a great setting powder to use with liquid foundation or bb cream and gives you a really natural look while combating shine as it provides long-lasting coverage as with the pressed base but again without making you look dry and dusty. As with the pressed base the packaging and sponge are good quality so it’s ideal for on-the-go touch-ups. What I really like about this pressed powder is it doesn’t clog my pores, doesn’t cause any irritation and doesn’t leave my skin ridiculously dry. Normally I use loose powder in the morning as most pressed powders leave my skin looking dry, dull and lifeless but this gives the same effect as a HD loose powder whilst being in a handy pressed format to take around in my handbag.
Glo Minerals Perfect Lips Kit £31.45
This kit is great for this time of year when my lips just seem to be dry all the time, no matter how much water I
drink or how many times I use a lip exfoliator. The Perfect Lips Kit contains a Protecting Lip Treatment SPF15, a Lip Ritual and a Suede Matte Crayon.
Lip Ritual
This is a great lip treatment for very dry and chapped lips, it contains the pure essential oils of anise, clove, peppermint and thyme plus jojoba and natural apricot kernel oil to condition chapped lips and impart moisture. This is a non coloured lip treatment to get your lips in great condition before using lipsticks, as we all
know applying matte lipcolours over the top of dry lips just looks terrible, so this gets your lips silky and in perfect condition before you use the matte lip crayon also included in the kit. Because of the anise it smells slightly of licorice which I really like.
I really like the lipstick style applicator as it’s far more hygienic than a pot of lip balm you have to put your finger in and once applied to the lips it feels smooth and soothing rather than goopy. I also like that due to the high oil content it gives a clear shine rather than a white colour to your lips as a lot of paler lip balms do which always seem to highlight any dry bits, this minimises them and then after a few days use your lips will be really soft with no dry bits to hide at all.
Protecting Lip Treatment SP15
I like this lip treatment but think it is more as a preventative measure to stop you getting dry lips when the cold weather starts or if you are in very cold weather skiing or on a beach holiday, simply because it does impart some colour which can show up any dry parts on your lips if you do have them. If you use it for that purpose it’s a great product as it’s very moisturising and has broad spectrum SPF15 protection.
I have shade Champagne Punch (swatch above) and I really like as an everyday lip colour for work when I get so engrossed there’s a good chance if I had anything dark or bright on my lips it might end up rubbed around my face but does give a little colour to make me look a bit more polished! You can choose from 3 different shades if you buy the kit.
Suede Matte Crayon
This lip crayon has absolutely amazing pigmentation. It’s very similar to the ones by Nars. They aren’t so drying but are similarly long lasting. The crayon handily has a build in sharpener, which is really helpful! Pictured above is the colour Crush. It’s so brightly pigmented I was amazed. It would be a great holiday colour or paired with simple eye makeup to really make a statement.
Overall I was very impressed with this brand and the two kits that I tried. More so than other mineral
brands that I have tried such as Bare Minerals. The skincare products seem much more finely milled and give a more natural coverage with good pigmentation and classic packaging.
