Putting Facial Mists and Sprays to the Test

Facial Mists and Sprays.  They’re not all made the same.  Some are for hydrating, some are like a toner, some are for sun protection and some are makeup setting mists.  They  sound great in theory but in reality, some of them do nothing at all. A good one can make a huge difference to your skin or makeup, a bad one can be a big fat waste of cash. Here are my tried and tested products and opinions on them.

Makeup Setting Sprays

A few spritzes, and your formerly disappearing makeup stays in place, and all signs of any oily bits are kept at bay. With a good setting spray, this is a reality. First up is the  Pixi Makeup Fixing Mist £16  which works way better than a lot of expensive makeup setting sprays I have used. It is soothing to sensitive and dry skin and perfect to pop on in the morning as the last step of your makeup routine. My favourite is Gerard Cosmetics Slay All Day Setting Spray £13.50 .  This totally ensures that your makeup remains intact and flawless all day long. Slay All Day Setting Spray naturally mattifies the skin whilst promoting a natural finish. This innovative setting spray maintains the makeup you’ve applied, preventing the makeup from going ‘cakey’ and settling into the fine lines and pores of the skin. Big bottle for the price as well.

I also tried out the Urban Decay De-Slick makeup setting spray as I get an oily chin during the day. I use BB cream, concealer, and HD setting powder however my chin area always seems to separate and smudges.  Unfortunately, this didn’t make my skin look better, it actually looked worse and I got even more oily than normal. Very confusing. I wouldn’t recommend this.

SPF Facial Spray

L’oreal UV Perfect Aqua Essence City Face Mist SPF50 RRP- Not sure.  Ok don’t hate me, this isn’t available in the UK yet.  It’s from the Asian L’oreal range and it isn’t likely to be here in the UK until 2017. I know. But stick with me because  you need this in your life! I did find a listing on eBay for it L’oreal UV Perfect Aqua Essence City Face Mist

This ultra lightweight SPF50 is sweat proof, hydrating, non-sticky, non-greasy and applies in 4 seconds. It is a facial spray, it’s just like a mist of water on your face.  You can spray it on over your makeup and it gives 12 hours of UV protection.  I’m surprised it doesn’t also make you a cocktail! This is the best SPF I have ever tried in my life. All the fun facts are here that show how well it’s been tested> The Specifics

Hydrating Facial Mists

Kiehl’s Cactus Facial Mist  is amazing. I use this either alone when my face is sore and dry, or after foundation to make it look dewier. This is one of my absolutely favourites facial sprays and I can’t say enough good things about it.  This is great to use if you work in an office with aircon or if you have sore skin from eczema or sunburn. I will absolutely repurchase this after I have used a few more of the other sprays I currently have (I have a ridiculous amount).

001 Skincare Rosa Damascena Essence Mist £31 The very purpose of the product is to rejuvenate and restore mature, dehydrated or sensitive skin. It does that in spades and hydrates and brightens dull and tired skin. I absolutely love this product.  In the month or so I have been using it I have become addicted to the gorgeous smell and how my face feels so cooled and refreshed after using it. I love how it hydrates my skin and use it either before makeup or before my moisturiser in the evenings to lock in the moisture. I’ve also had fantastic results when using the mist as a mid-afternoon refresher.  A couple of sprays helps to give a wonderful fresh skin feeling.

This Works In-Transit Spray-On Moisture £18  this has been in my hand luggage ever since getting it. I love spraying this on mid flight and dousing myself in it as my skin gets so dry on planes from the recycled air. I try and go to the bathroom once an hour and spray loads on. It has the added benefit of smelling great, a nice change from the usual plane scent! I have nearly finished this bottle and plan on repurchasing as soon as it’s run out.

Do you use facial mists? Which ones have you tried that were amazing or terrible?
