Gucci Marmont Matelassé Mini Bag Review
Today I present to you my new bag baby the Gucci Marmont Mini bag. It was a necessity (I joke) although I did need a small bag as my giant tote obsession was a bit out of control.
I bought the Gucci Marmont Mini about three weeks ago and I’m head over heels in love. I still flit back and forth between a few larger totes for work but it will become more of an everyday handbag as the months go on and the weather is nicer. Aka basically when I can stop lugging around scarves and jumpers.
Product Details
The mini GG Marmont chain shoulder bag has a softly structured shape and a zip top closure with antique gold toned double G hardware. The shoulder strap has a part chain, part leather shoulder detail. Made in matelassé leather it has a chevron design and GG stitched into the back so you can wear it around the other way for a more subtle look.
- Chain shoulder strap with 60cm drop
- Zip top closure
- Mini size: W18cm x H12cm x D6cm
- Microfiber lining with a suede-like finish (feels like real suede to me – I have been tricked lol)!
What Fits Inside the Gucci Marmont Mini?
I don’t know about you but I find it a pain that you have to buy a bag without knowing beforehand what fits inside of it, comfortably and realistically. As a regular tote-lugger, I find the logistics of having a smaller bag restrictive and frankly, stressful and hard for me to visualise. So to help you all out, here’s what I fit inside my bag.
- 1 x 5 slot cardholder. Enough for debit card, driving license, boots card, credit card, a few notes and gym pass. A tiny purse would fit in this. I do not own a tiny purse since it got stolen in Cambodia. Those motherfluffers!
- Car and house keys – probably should downsize these as half I’ve got no idea what they’re for and the Harry Potter keyring is slightly unnecessary but they fit.
- Work photo ID badge (that looks nothing like me, but apparently I can’t change the photo)
- iPhone 7 regular size
- Debit card banking security thingy (looks like mini calculator and is the BANE of my banking life)
- iPhone headphones
- Pack of tissues
- Lip stuff, usually 1 lip balm and 1 lipstick or gloss
- Hairband
- Allergy tablets
- Chewing gum
My Thoughts On The Bag
I love the deep black matelassé leather, and find the gold logo and chain to be a classic touch and not too over the top. I love that the gold isn’t super shiny as I think that makes it look less blingy. The shoulder strap is the perfect length on me to use it cross body. However I am 5’11 so it might be a bit too long if you’re very short, I’d recommend trying on before buying if you are closer to 5 foot tall.
The interior has a nude microfiber lining which completely fooled me into thinking it was suede. I’m not too bothered about it being a light fabric as the only thing I put in there that could potentially leak is a lip-gloss. Apart from the time I accidentally poured a bottle of wine in my Louis Vuitton I’ve never had any other lining incidents so I am sure it will be fine!
The exterior leather is kind of soft but also tough and I think it will keep it’s shaping as long as I pad it with tissue when I’m not wearing it and it doesn’t seem as if it will scratch easily.
It has a small interior pocket but I would not suggest using this for a debit card or similar as mine fell out, got taken and the thief went on a contactless payment rampage. Well, I say rampage, they went to Poundland and McDonalds lol! But sometimes even thieves have to ball on a budget it seems. Ensure you only put things in the slip pocket like business cards, work ID’s or things that are a bit more weighted and less valuable and definitely use a purse to keep everything safe.
I really love this bag as you can keep your hands free and it’s very light and comfortable to wear. I’m loving that it looks quite classic but also really cool. I like that it makes me feel cool when I wear it as I am definitely not cool! It’s great for every day but would also be handy in the airport to keep the essentials and when travelling when you don’t want to be carrying too much around to sightsee.
Why Did You Get Black?
Strangely enough I only have one other black designer bag, and that is Michael Kors. I really don’t find myself that into Michael Kors any more and I don’t think I will use that bag very much any more. I needed a black bag that would go with everything and be a bit more funky and casual. This works for work or for the weekend. The bag also comes in white, nude and some funky bright colours like pink, blue, yellow and red.
Where to Buy and What Does It Cost?
I personally always try and buy a branded item from the brand’s website itself as you get all of the official packaging, or from Net a Porter if I can’t do that. Right now I think getting it directly from Gucci is best and the bag costs £640 and the link is here.
