Regular readers may have heard me talk about Lucas’ Pawpaw Ointment before as I go through it like it’s going out of fashion. I use it everywhere that you would generally use Vaseline such as lips, eyebrows, eyelashes, burns, cuts, sores, insect bites etc. and find that it is so much better than Vaseline for healing, whereas Vaseline is more of a barrier without the healing.
However, I did know that it contained some petroleum (which obviously isn’t a nice natural product) so am always on the lookout for something similar but more natural. I was sent a tube of the Pure Papaya ointment earlier in the month but I had actually tried it before..and I just don’t really like it. But I dutifully tried it again since I had been sent it anyway.
This ointment is 100% natural and free from petrochemicals. In addition to papaya the active ingredients include calendula, shea butter, jojoba oil and, for me, the product that ruins it all – macadamia oil. All of these lovely natural products are all good for you but the macadamia nut oil just makes the product smell and taste a bit….eew. I tried it on Matt to see if it was just me being the usual nit picky prissy moaner and he made a bleurgh kind of face.
The good points about this ointment
It really does work very well if you like the scent and taste or if you use it on your hands or other parts of your body where you aren’t going to taste it then it won’t be a problem. The papaya and calendula combination is great for dry skin and soothing and is perfect if the horrible cold weather has made your hands chapped and sore. It is also good to slather some on before going out in the wind and the cold to protect from further damage. The product is well price with simple classic packaging that is easy to use so you don’t dispense too much at once.
The bad points
The scent and taste! These put me off so I wouldn’t repurchase, I just clearly do not like macadamia nut oil or it doesn’t like me… if you love macadamia then this would be fabulosity itself
Overall – I have to be honest… I’m sticking with the chemicals
