Bikini Line Topiary with Wilkinson Sword and Jamie Aston

Spring is finally here, it’s almost time to ditch the tights and coats and, if you’re jetting off on holiday next month as I am, it’s time to get cracking with your beauty regime now if you’ll be wearing a bikini in a few weeks. First stop – the lady garden!

Bikini Line Topiary

The bikini line dilemma is a chore for most women and the cheapest and quickest way to get rid of the hair is shaving.  Contrary to popular belief, shaving doesn’t make hair grow back thicker and it’s handy to have a razor with you if you are going on a holiday longer than a week as you’ll need something simple you can do yourself while you are away.

Is there a way to shave without the pesky side effects? You might be surprised to know – there is! In conjunction with Wilkinson Sword and their two fab products: the New Wilkinson Sword Hydro Silk Bikini (RRP £14.99) and the Wilkinson Sword Quattro for Women Bikini Pearl and Papaya (RRP £10.99).  So follow these steps, and you’ll be bikini ready in no time.

Step 1 – Invest in a Good Razor

Picking the right razor is the first step to ensure you don’t get razor burn or ingrown hairs.  The more blades the better as they dispense more pressure.  This allows each blade to cut with less force but gives more effect.  The Wilkinson Sword Hydro Silk Bikini has 5 curve sensing blades.  This five-blade combination adapts to women’s curves as each of the blades is individually suspended.  The blade tips reduce the pull sensation, giving you a comfortable shave that leaves skin irresistibly smooth.

The Quattro for Women Bikini Pearl and Papaya has 4 blades.  They feel so gentle on your skin and give such a close and smooth finish, much better than any regular razor.

Choose a firm, sturdy razor which is easy to grip.

Purchasing one with soothing strips will make a huge difference and ensure you don’t get razor burn or nick yourself.  The Water-Activated Moisturising Serum in the Wilkinson Sword Hydro Silk Bikini is infused with marine extracts and shea butter, this unique serum activates when in contact with water, helping to replenish skin’s natural moisture with every stroke.

Tthis razor has unique skin guards work in combination with the 5 Curve-Sensing Blades to help reduce skin irritation.  They even-out the skin’s surface to help prevent it getting caught between the blades, providing a unique, smooth experience.  Hydro Silk Bikini also features a new handle with a grip pattern designed for easy handling and an integrated stand to prevent blades from touching countertop surfaces. The pack includes a premium AAA lithium battery for long lasting performance.

Prepare the Area

If you’ve gone too long since your last shave (who hasn’t)! Trim the hair first before taking a razor to it. Both the Wilkinson Sword Hydro Silk Bikini and the Quattro for Women Bikini Pearl and Papaya razors have a waterproof trimmer on the other end of the razor so you don’t need to buy a separate one, and it can be used in the shower, what a genius idea!   Both feature a wide trimmer, sharp blades and the Hydro Silk Bikini has a new comb design so there are four different length settings which provides an easy solution to obtain a customised trim.  Use the trimmer to reduce the length of the hair to about a quarter of an inch long.

Soak and Scrub

If it’s been ages since your last bikini shave then I recommend a bath before shaving, soak for at least 10 minutes because the warm water will help soften the outermost layer of your skin, making it easier to remove hair, afterwards use a gentle facial exfoliator on the area to remove dry skin and tease out any stubborn ingrown hairs prior to shaving.

Shave Smart

To shave this area correctly glide the razor gently once over the area, each time going in the direction that the hair grows. Apply more shaving cream and then do one gentle pass over the area against the hair growth, to get it really smooth. Rinse thoroughly and apply a light moisturiser, after shave balm or oil to soothe.  I have been impressed with these two razors.  I pitted them both against each other and used one for one side of the bikini line and the other razor for the other side.

Results

Both gave a great result, the trimmers are such an ingenious idea.  They save money and the time of having to buy and use two different items.  The Wilkinson Sword Quattro for Women Bikini Pearl and Papaya is a well-priced, easy and convenient way of trimming, shaping or shaving your bikini line into whatever style is your preference but the New Hydro Silk Bikini just pipped it to the post as my favourite.  It gives such a close shave, even in hard to reach areas and leaves your skin silky soft and smooth, with no redness or bumps.

From Lady Garden to Actual Garden!

I learnt about these products as a guest at the Wilkinson Sword Topiary Master class with Jamie Aston. Held at his Floristry School in Marylebone this week.  Jamie  is considered to be the leading florist of his generation and his unique style is frequently called upon by the world’s celebrities.   Along with his flower school in Marylebone he also has one in South Korea with plans to expand further soon.

Making the Centrepiece

I had such a great evening and felt really amazed at what I managed to make! Jamie’s design was a simple and beautiful table centrepiece.  This involved shaping the oasis (foam that is used to hold the base of the centrepiece in the vase).  We then shaped it into a ball, covered in wire mesh and then attached to the top of the centrepiece.  This is then the base for all of the beautiful flowers to be pushed into.

Hard at work with Ania from aniaaniapawlak.blogspot.fr/

After the first part of the demonstration we set about having a go ourselves.   I think we did a great job to get the basis of the centrepiece together, without any injuries!

Bases

Jamie demonstrated the preparation of different types of flowers before arranging the piece.  He advised how to structure the flowers into the oasis to form a circular arrangement. Ensuring that the flowers have a balance of colour and texture.  You keep turning the base around to each side and filling in any gaps.  The flowers we used were fuchsia roses, pale pinkish tea roses, blue hydrangea and hypericum berries.  We balanced the flowers with  greenery and then the oasis  was covered in bright pink moss! I had no idea they even sold that,  I loved it!

I had such a great evening with the other girls from different blogs.  The arrangement was amazing  and it was great to meet Jamie.
