Xen Tan Scent Secure Review

Sorry for the boring title!  This post is a review of the new product from Xen Tan, a scent secure moisturiser which is oil free and a companion for fake tan use.

It is for face and body, is paraben free and has been designed to lock out self tan odours during and after fake tanning.

It’s a fabulous idea in itself as that fake tan smell is vile, somewhere between dodgy digestive biscuits and BO, it really does not smell good.  I have found that over the years fake tans have started to smell so much better, and most of them don’t really have much of a smell at all these days, I know the spray tans that I use only have a very light scent and I use more than one brand.

The packaging of the moisturiser is handy in a large gold tube and sanitary as it’s not in a tub.  I like the colours of the packaging although find it strange that the top says “Daily Protection” rather than Moisturiser, as if you were specifically looking for a moisturiser you might not pick this up.

You need to use oil free moisturiser before and after fake tanning as oil can repel tan so if it is used before tanning the tan won’t take on the skin, and afterwards it can break down the tan making it come off and leaving you patchy.

Most brands of tan such as Fake Bake have an oil free moisturiser in the range as it is so necessary to keep your skin hydrated to get the best from your fake tan, Xen Tan is the first I have seen claim that it locks out the scent of fake tan.

So does it work at locking out the scent of fake tan?  Well yes and no.  It did ensure that I didn’t smell any fake tan whiffs when I used it with my regular spray tan, however I barely notice a smell anyway.  It is scented with cucumber melon which is a nice fresh scent that masks the scent of the tan, I am not sure if the fancy technology they state about surrounding the molecule is right, it’s just like using any other perfumed oil free moisturiser if you ask me.

Now don’t get me wrong, I love the moisturiser, think it does a fab job and would definitely recommend purchasing it.  But I do think it is just a very nice scented moisturiser that makes the skin feel firmer? Yes.

I would recommend this for use with any fake tan as even if you are not sure about the scent masking properties, it is lovely to use, you do need an oil free moisturiser with a fake tan and it’s a really big tube that can be used on face and body, so it’s very reasonably priced.  It absorbs quickly and skin does feel really nice once its absorbed.  If your fake tan is really that stinky I think you need to get a new fake tan! Try one of the newly released ones as honestly these days you don’t have to smell like a biscuit to get a bronzed glow.
