A while ago I was sent the Sigma Makeup Complete Kit with Brush Roll – Black
The kit is described as “12 professional quality brushes for a complete makeover! Everything you need to apply makeup to eyes and face.”
One of my favourite things about this is the brush roll itself, it is so soft and lovely, the perfect material for a brush roll as it really is easily to roll it up and easy to clean.
Overall I think there are some fantastic brushes and some not very impressive brushes. Just like every other brand. I do compare a couple of brushes to Mac simply because I have mostly Mac brushes and some of them are quite similar.
If you have no makeup brushes, can’t afford the Mac/Bobbi Brown/Louise Young brushes that you might have wanted to buy or you are starting up a kit from scratch then yes I would definitely recommend these. Sure if you can buy a full brush set of brand New Mac or Bobbi Brown then I would go with them, but just one brush I have from Mac cost over £30 so some people don’t have that much to spend.
Brushes in this kit:
Duo Fibre – F50 – This is extremely similar to the Mac version although bizarrely I found this one easier to wash. I am a definite Mac brush lover and have been collecting them for years so I was quite surprised to prefer a Sigma brush to a Mac one to be honest. This is used pretty much every time that I wear foundation and I often use it to blend in cream blush as well. This really gives an air-brush finish and is my favourite out of this set.
Foundation – F60 – This is the paint brush style foundation brush that most brands tend to carry, I don’t use it much and I don’t use my Mac brush much either, it seems to have been superseded by the duo fibre style brushes for me. It’s definitely not a ‘must have’ but I do use it for concealer sometimes if I am having a massive dark circle day to help blend the concealer out so it doesn’t look too obvious.
Concealer – F70 –I didn’t really use this much, I prefer a fluffy eyeshadow brush to apply my concealer as it gives a more flawless finish, this tended to give a thick and clumpy finish which makes blemishes MORE obvious!
Tapered Blending – E40 – Rounded and tapered top. Specially designed to apply and blend colour on the crease. Natural bristles. Really like this brush, I have about 7 similar ones from Mac, Sleek, Crown and all sorts of brands – definitely the most versatile as it can be used for eyeshadow cream and powder and concealer.
Eye Shading – E55 – Soft and dense with a rounded finish. I didn’t get on with this brush that well, it didn’t seem to apply the shadow as densely as you would expect and I found it hard to use it to blend anything. Natural bristles.
Eyeliner – E05 – I use this as a lip brush! It makes applying red lipstick really easy as you can get right into the cupids bow and the corners and make your lips look perfect. I would think this would be a bit too long and wobbly for eyeliner. Definitely my favourite lip brush ever.
Small Angle – E65 – I found this great for filling in my eyebrows with a powder but the bristles were too long with too much movement to use it to apply any eyeliner. Synthetic bristles mean it’s easy to clean which I like.
Medium Angled Shading – E70 – This is a great brush for applying highlighter to your brow bone as it has an angled, tapered, flat top. I found it far too big and the bristles not stiff enough to use as a crease brush as it’s just not precise enough. This brush has Natural bristles.
Large Shader – E60 – This is a perfect brush if you want to do a wash of powder or cream shadow (or primer) all over the eye. I have been using this every morning to slap on Korres’ nude eyeshadow as a base. Natural bristles.
Pencil – E30 – This brush is extremely similar to it’s Mac counterpart and gives precise application of colour on the crease, outer corner, and upper and lower lash line. Also ideal to smudge out eyeliner for a smoky look. Natural bristles.
Top Sigma
Large Angled Contour – F40 – This angled brush makes apply blush really easy for me, I personally find it too big to use for contour but it’s the perfect size for my cheek and with a couple of swipes makes application of powder blush super easy.
Large Powder – F30 – I can’t say I use this as much as my flat topped ELF kabuki brush but it’s a very close second. The bristles are packed nice and densely but the brush has a rounded top (I favour a flat top for a flawless complexion) This is ideal if you are applying a product like Benefit’s one hot minute or a powder you want to lightly dust all over the face but I wouldn’t use it for a blot powder or a loose setting powder as you will get a better finish with a flat top.
