Juvéderm Volite Treatment Review
For the last year or so, I’ve wanted to find a facial treatment, different to ones I’ve previously had, to subtly make me look more refreshed, and less tired. While there’s nothing wrong with my face in theory, I’m not as young as I used to be! However, my aim is to look natural with a ‘your skin but better’ result.
I was recently invited by Allergan, makers of Juvéderm, to try out their new Volite treatment at the Phi clinic in London’s Harley Street, and I jumped at the chance to try something new and share the process.
After researching online, Juvéderm Volite sounded like the perfect way address the texture of my skin and the lack of hydration, which in turn could hopefully give my skin back some of the glow that has been slowly diminishing, possibly caused by the amount of time I seem to spend at work these days.
Hyaluronic Acid Injectable
Now we all know that Hyaluronic Acid is an amazing ingredient to have in your skincare however, Juvéderm Volite is a Hyaluronic Acid injectable treatment. It is based on technology which cleverly combines low and high molecular weight hyaluronic acid in order to improve your skin quality.
I liked the idea that the treatment provides natural looking results. In fact, in case you weren’t aware, hyaluronic acid is a naturally-occurring molecule that already exists within our bodies. Hyaluronic acid is responsible for water retention in our skin, so the Volite treatment helps boost the hydration in the treated area and further the rejuvenation process. As we age the percentage of hyaluronic acid in the skin decreases, which also accounts for the loss of hydration and moisture in the skin. The decrease of hyaluronic acid starts at around the age of 20, but becomes apparent when people get into their 30’s and 40’s so really any age from someone late twenties onwards will really benefit from this treatment.
What if My Neck Needs Rejuvenating Too?
Treatment is suitable not only for the face, but also the neck, décolletage and hands. There are quite a few different before and after pictures online of different areas, so you can see the type of results you can expect. Results can last up to 9 months with a single treatment, which is very impressive. Click below to see quick video click of the treatment being done.
My Consultation
The Phi clinic is swish, pristine and futuristic and after a quick sit in reception I was swept off to my treatment room come futuristic pod by Jude Dunican, one of the clinic’s nurses who is a dab hand at performing this treatment.
During my consult with Jude, I asked her how Juvéderm Volite treatments are delivered, as all I knew of fillers was of directly injecting them into a specific area such as the lips. She explained that the treatment is comfortable thanks to the addition of a local anaesthetic ingredient (lidocaine) to enhance patient comfort. My face would be numbed with the anaesthetic cream, a grid drawn over the skin to be treating to ensure even distribution of the product and a very thin needle used to make small, pinprick injections all over my face.
Numbing Time
After our consultation, I was a tad nervous as Jude let me know that as my skin is pale and very thin I would be likely to bruise, however I had no other concerns and was still happy to give it a go. If your skin is thicker and/or darker, you will not be a likely ‘bruiser’!
The information Jude provided me with pre-treatment is a clear demonstration of why it’s so important to find a qualified practitioner for Juvéderm Volite, or any injectable treatments. You can find the clinic connector here [link] which will provide you with a list of local clinics and practitioners, so you can find one that best suits your needs.
The Treatment
After I could no longer feel my face or lips, and I had started to worry I was unknowingly dribbling, it was time for the grid to be drawn and the Juvéderm injections to start. It was an odd sensation — I couldn’t feel any real pain and it was much quicker than I expected. A fair few jabs later and I was done. I quite enjoyed the reassurance of Jude telling me throughout that I was doing well, despite doing absolutely nothing – flattery is always appreciated in situations like these!
After the Treatment
I was relieved to check out my face after Jude was finished and see that it did indeed look fine. I only had a couple of small bruises, which was less than we both expected. I would suggest, if you decide to try Volite, in having this treatment either after work or at a weekend just in case you do bruise. Especially as you aren’t supposed to wear makeup for a day or so after the treatment, so aren’t able to cover it up. Thankfully nobody on the tube home seemed to notice, so the general consensus was that yes, I did look relatively normal!
The Results
It’s been a month since the treatment, and now the bruises have disappeared and I have been chugging water like it’s going out of fashion (in case it helps), I can definitely feel and see a difference in my skin. Foundation and skincare products apply much smoother and I find that even if I liberally powder my face, it doesn’t seem to ‘sit’ on the skin and make it look lined and dry, as it previously did. I am also incredibly impressed that despite have flu and a chest infection, my face hasn’t dried out or chapped as it would normally do every single winter.
I do have most of my glow back, although with the flu, chest infection, lack of sleep and currently ridiculous office working hours, I think that has inhibited some of the results. If you have a lifestyle more similar to that of a normal person, with an actual work life balance, you would expect to see even better results than I have. And I’m pretty impressed with mine! I have also noticed my skin never feels dry or tight after cleansing, which is great!
Thoughts on The Treatment
I think this is a great treatment to have if you are looking for an overall face or neck ‘refresher’. You aren’t spot treating a particular area of your face, so it gives an overall refreshed and natural glow and better texture to your face all over. Combined with the fact that only one treatment is needed to achieve results, this product is a game changer.
If you’re feeling and looking run down and like you’ve lost your sparkle, this treatment is worth considering. I will certainly be considering going back to have the treatment on my neck in future, as I have those bothersome horizontal neck lines which are quite hard to hide, and I really think this treatment will make them less obvious.
How Much and Where?
The Juvéderm Volite Filler Treatment is available at the Phi clinic for £400, the price of the treatment at other clinics may vary. I really recommend Phi clinic as they were lovely and it was very hi-tech and clean there however check the Juveder website here for your local Juvederm official practitioner (use the find a clinic section).
I thought it was great to post about this now in case you are planning on having a treatment like this done in the new year, maybe your resolution is to treat yourself or have something like this done. Let me know if you do!
